It's official. We're going to start an 8-week self defense course on Thursday November 17th at 6:00 pm. Class will typically run about an hour and twenty minutes. I haven't done any advertising so I'm not sure of the numbers. We'll see how may folks show up and take it from there. Cost for the entire course is $175. Make-up sessions will be scheduled if needed. Tell your friends; more people gives us more training options. I hope to see you there!

Hi All, we're gearing up for an 8-week session of women's self-defense. We've got a great team and some experienced ladies to help out. We'll get some conditioning in and a solid mix of standing and ground techniques to deal with the spectrum from annoyance to life-threatening situations. Above all, everyone has fun! At this time I'm thinking I'd like to get four classes in before the end of the year and then do four after the holidays so a tentative start Thursday Nov 17 at 6 PM. Hi All, we'll do a make-up session this Friday April 1 at 6 for anyone interested. We'll run through as much Sessions 1 and 2 material as we can. This would also be a good one for anyone interested in checking out the class, all are welcome!

Lets talk about the palm strike. I dug up this little video about Pancrase MMA legend Bas Rutten. I shared a previous Rutten video about palm striking but this one shows it in action. Even watching five minutes of this one will show a lot of great fundamental striking and ground fighting techniques that we are starting to get into. Note the effectiveness of targeting the liver (yes, brutal and effective). There are also a few remarkable '90s mullets for the mullet fans.

Hi All, just as an update/fyi, this Friday is the last class of Session 1. We will begin Session 2 next Friday at the same time (6 PM) with sign-up before class. If you know anyone that might be interested let them know. If anyone is interested and wants to observe a class just message me.

The headlock is a classic control move, we're almost hard-wired to try to control an opponents head, so we'll continue to explore this. We're moving to the ground in class because the odds are that any real struggle, certainly the life or death kind, will go to the ground. In Sessions 2 and 3 you'll learn to control the transition to the ground and end the attack on the ground. In the end you'll find that going to the ground can provide you with some significant advantages against a larger opponent. Ironically, a lot of folks start out a bit intimidate by ground work and then find it to be the funnest parts of our training:)

Great class last night as we ramped up the contact. Be proud of yourselves, you're doing awesome. I'm glad everyone is having fun, so am I. We're at the 1/2 way point in Session One. I don't know how many of you are planning to continue with Session Two but I'd say we have room for a few more so let folks know about about it. We'll talk about it at some point so I can make sure that current students get a spot in the next session. As we go our focus will shift more to the counter attack. If you think defending is fun you're going to love what comes next. Again, people can take any session, you don't Session One to take Session Two. Have a great week, see you on Friday.
