An early and very art deco design for the Carl Ben Eielson Building by Architect N.L. Troast. You'll note it's got extra detailing and towers it doesn't today. Dedicated first in 1934, construction was completed in a number of stages until it gained the current, contiguous concrete plan in 1950.

Look familiar? A little throwback to the stairs down College Hill all the way back in 1929 -- presumably this was the 'up' portion to Toboggan slide's far more rapid downhill option. Were (or are!) the stairs a major part of your daily commute?

Spring's finally here! It's about the time our long-gone inflatable rink, the Beluga, would have been switched over from hockey to the summer tennis season. The Beluga is seen here accompanied by the Ernest Patty N. Building. The Patty Building went up in 1963, and has seen a number of expansions over the years, including both versions of the Beluga, and the construction of an Ice Arena approximately where the Beluga sat in this photo in 1979!

A great look for scale -- the original 30 ft across satellite-tracking dish on top of Elvey going up in 1987! Replaced in 2017, the original (also blue) dish weighed 40,000lbs and began receiving satellite data first in 1991. The replacement is only 9 meters to the original 10, but weighs twice as much. These dishes have been a crucial part of satellite and remote sensing research for decades through the Alaska Satellite Facility.

June 7, 1984. A slide of two women strolling along a sunny afternoon campus just after the completion of the Wood Center, and during ongoing renovations to the grounds! Those little baby trees aren't quite so small these days.

A final round of congratulations for our excellent graduates this year, and all who worked hard besides! A look at our third ever commencement -- in 1925. From the back of the photograph: "The third Commencement. Left to right: Morton E. Stevens, first president of the Board of Trustees; Dean Ernest N. Patty; Jamie Cameron, third lone graduate; Colonel (now General) James Gordon Steese, then head of the Alaska Road Commission, who gave the Commencement address." Jamie Cameron, the class of 1925, was the second woman to graduate from the college with a B.S. in home economics.
