This post is a week late, BUT we capped off our summer by taking another group of Wapsie Valley students and parents to Washington D. C. We spent four action packed days there seeing all of the monuments and memorials, a tour of the U. S. Capitol building, The Library of Congress, Arlington National Cemetery and changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Mt Vernon, and many museums. Some highlights included seeing a survivor of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and hearing his story while we were at 9/11 memorial. We listened to the story of Josie Traum who is a holocaust survivor while we visited the Holocaust Memorial. We even got to hear the story of David Mathews, a Wapsie alum from Fairbank, who died in Vietnam. We placed a thank you note at his panel of the Vietnam Memorial thanking him for his service and sacrifice. Finally, two of our students were given awards by our CEO’s. The first was Dustin Adams for having the most points after trivia and scavenger hunts. The second was Alex Brown for leading by example and showing strong character. We couldn’t be more proud of how our students and families represented Wapsie Valley while in D. C. If you’re interested in going on the next trip to Washington D. C. Be on the lookout for information this fall! 🇺🇸

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to the incredible staff at Wapsie Valley 💛🖤
You show up every day for kids in ways that often go unseen—but never unappreciated. Thank you for your patience, your passion, and the difference you make in the lives of our students.

Wapsie Valley FCCLA is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program to help those in need in our community as part of one of our national programs, **Student Body**. The Student Body program helps members learn to make informed, responsible choices for their physical and mental health while also providing opportunities to teach others. The teen years are an ideal time to build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

This Thursday, May 7th, we will be hosting a **Bone Marrow Donor Registry Sign-Up Event** at the high school.

So what is it?
Joining the registry means you could be a match for someone in need of a life-saving bone marrow or stem cell transplant. For many patients with serious diseases, this is their last chance.

Why is it important?
There are not enough donors in the registry, and finding a match can be very difficult—especially for patients from underrepresented backgrounds. More people signed up means more lives can be saved.

How do you sign up?
It’s quick and easy! You’ll complete a short form and do a simple **cheek swab**. That’s it. You’ll also have the chance to talk with a representative and learn more about the process.

📍 Location: Wapsie Valley High School
📅 Date: Thursday, May 7th
⏰ Time: 11:27 AM – 11:49 AM

Stop by, get informed, and consider joining the registry—you could be the reason someone gets a second chance at life.
