This year, SHARE funded Bangladesh Integrated Social Advancement Program (BISAP) to provide 30 disaster affected women with sewing machines. They were also given practical training on machine operations, maintenance and basic repairs. The project enabled the beneficiaries to generate sustainable income.

One inspiring mother of two who previously struggled to make ends meet has now started a small home based tailoring business. She tailors clothes for her neighbors and customers which helps her earn a steady income to nourish her family and support her children's education and wellbeing. Her business has not only improved her family's financial stability but also enabled her to send her kids to school.

SHARE funded BISAP in Bangladesh for a second round to support 30 disaster-affected and vulnerable women through the distribution and training of sewing machines to establish income generating activities. In spite of harrowing climate conditions that delayed distribution and transporation, the beneficiaries were still able to establish their own small businesses. One case study thanked the SHARE Insititute stating that this was a "turning point that transformed her from a disaster survivor into a self-reliant woman with renewed confidence in the future".

SHARE funded the Ghanian Biochar Initiative to combat food insecurity and slowing deforestation impacts through the use of a sustainable cookstove micro-loan program. 10 households with a total of 26 direct beneficiaries held engagement meetings and specialized field training sessions before distributing the first batch of pilot stoves. The project target several goals that include better overall health and safety and economic empowerment in the form of technician and entrepreneurial oppurtunities.

SHARE funded Altruism for Marginalized Communities in Uganda to train 10 vulnerable women in sewing and tailoring skills. The beneficiaries had 3 months of training with a qualified instructor in various procedures including machine operation and fabric cutting. Despite initial challenges such as limited resources and fluctuating material costs, the project has received significant community interest while expanding future income generating opportunities for the women.

Currently, eight are self-employed, one is an apprentice instructor, and one is receiving business mentorship. One beneficiary said the project has transformed her life by giving her practical skills that provide her with a reliable income.

SHARE funded Action for Change in Cameroon to train 15 young girls in manicure and pedicure services. Beneficiaries will receive supplies to start their own nail business and they will be employed at local salons after they have completed their training. One 18 year old beneficiary said she is excited and happy to gain new skills. She is now able to take care of herself and support her younger sister with her education.

SHARE funded Mugbi Agricultural Investment in Sierra Leone to aid marginalized families in the production of swamp rice to enhance their economic and social livelihoods. 14 direct beneficiaries (comprised of 12 female widows and 2 men) met with community elders and local farmers to prepare swamp rice nurseries for 3 weeks before transplanting the seedlings to its permanent sites. Monthly checkups have been conducted to ensure members adequate feedback conerning the project overall.

SHARE funded the Better World Initiative in Kenya to train 20 members from a Muslim Mbororo community in Irish potato and onion farming. The beneficiaries were given proper farming training and tools such as seeds and organic fertilizer. The project is now focused on crop monitoring and pest management. The beneficiaries now established Irish potatoe and onion farms. A portion of the harvest goes direcetly to the beneficiary and their families and the surplus produce will be sold.

This year SHARE funded Kanam Women Initiative in Kenya to train 20 teenage mothers and victims of female ge***al mutilation in detergent production and laundry services. The project established a small “laundry hub” where beneficiaries will provide laundry services using a semi-industrial machine funded by the project. The benificaries learned cusotmer servuce, hygine and operating laundry machines. One young mother of two can now earn a regular income on a consistnent basis in a safe work environment. She can now provide food for her family and return her children to school.

SHARE funded KACODE in Uganda to improve household income among 20 vulnerable women through pig farming and practical livestock management skills. The beneficiaries attended training sessions that covered topics such as pig housing and breeding before distributing seed pigs (one male and one female piglet) to four women. These women have reported succesful pig units and continue to actively care for the animals.

SHARE funded Shape Lives International in Ghana to improve the livelihoods of rural women farmers through digital market access and gender-inclusive innovation. A total of seven beneficaries out of an initial group of twenty participated in training sessions, with the remainder being unable to attend due to various responsibilties. Despite this, some households were able to attend through family representation and emphasizes the need for further sensitization to improve overall access.
