The perfect way to wrap up our first week together.

All week long, we read I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! and talked about color, creativity, and what happens when we let our imaginations take over. Then, at the end of the week, we turned the tables and let the children paint their teachers.

A little messy, a lot of laughter, and one of our favorite Creative Spirit traditions.

Three weeks in, and the magic has only continued!

Today we created a simple invitation to explore color, light, transparency, and cause and effect through hands-on discovery. Using materials we already had, the children made their own suncatchers and then waited to see what would happen when the sunlight found them.

The careful coloring and small, controlled movements involved in creating each suncatcher strengthen fine motor skills and hand control, helping prepare children for the skills they will eventually use for writing.

A day at Creative Spirit might look like two friends balancing along the edge of a garden, imagining where the path might lead next.

It’s wandering. Exploring. Taking a little risk. Discovering something new because a friend is beside you.

There is so much room here for children to slow down, follow their curiosity, and turn the ordinary into an entirely new world.

And sometimes, the best part of the day is simply exploring it together.

What begins as an imaginary recipe becomes an opportunity to practice cooperation, communication, problem-solving, and the joy of creating something together.

Gathering, mixing, pouring, carrying, and creating side by side. In the mud kitchen, every child has a role, and every contribution becomes part of the play.

This is child-led play.

These little friends have spent so much time learning, playing, growing, and becoming a community together. Now they’re stepping into TK, and watching them lead their own circle time and sing their goodbye song together is the sweetest reminder of just how much they’ve grown.

There’s something so special about seeing children become confident enough to carry on the traditions, songs, and routines they’ve shared together. ❤️

It started with an idea… and then came the figuring it out.

Using loose parts like toilet paper rolls, water bottles, tape, and hot glue, the children worked together to bring their idea to life. They used real tools, tested their design, watched the water move back and forth, and made adjustments when things didn’t go as planned.

When the water came out where it shouldn’t, they didn’t give up. They troubleshot, secured their materials, tried again, and kept experimenting until they found a solution.

This is the magic of child-led learning: the opportunity to wonder, create, problem solve, and discover that sometimes the best ideas come from trial and error.

Sometimes the most unexpected friendships grow right in the middle of play. Different ages, different stages, and yet here they are sharing a little space, enjoying their own play, and becoming part of each other’s day.

Children don’t always need to be doing the same thing to feel connected. Sometimes friendship begins simply by being near one another, having shared experiences, and discovering that there’s room for everyone in the same little world.

We love watching those unexpected connections unfold naturally through play. ✨

There’s something so empowering about being trusted with real tools.

For this hermit crab craft, the children used hot glue with adult supervision, giving them the opportunity to practice safely, build confidence, and discover what they’re capable of.

It’s about so much more than making a craft. It’s that moment when a child realizes they can handle something new, make their own choices, and create something with their own hands. Those little moments of independence can turn into such big feelings of pride and confidence.
