For some Fair Lawn Schools teachers, students, and recent grads, summer is meant for scientific study 🧪

Wonderful Wednesday means we’re sharing two spectacular programs that had this crew trading leisure for lab books and beaches for beakers.

Last week, FLHS rising seniors and alums presented research projects at Bergen Community College’s STEM C2 Conference. A poster session highlighted their work across topics such like lost apple c***r varieties, house cats, and environmental cleanup 🍏🐈🧹

Always curious, always learning: a few of our elementary teachers attended Montclair State University’s EcoExplorer STEM Academy in late-July. The 4-day program allowed the group to observe the outdoors on the college campus and a wildlife preserve. The lesson here is that meaningful science can be discovered anywhere, including your own backyard 🔬🌳

“Kids deserve the right to think that they can change the world.” - Lois Lowry

Feel Good Friday (sunny summer edition) is brought to you by a handful of TJ Middle School students who are certainly changing the world for a group of kiddos at Westmoreland. The Peers for Peace leadership group had a spectacular spring season hanging out and bonding with students in West’s Stepping Stones program. From outdoor playground follies to crafting friendship bracelets, it’s heartwarming to see these two groups come together for their monthly “play dates.” 🛝🌟

The crosstown relationship was elevated this year, as Peers for Peace donated a Buddy Bench that now sits in one of West’s colorful courtyards. They dedicated the bench to the late Jack Chiodi, Principal Mrs. Christy Dell’Aglio’s father, who passed away last year. A quote on the bench, made famous by the Randy Newman song and Toy Story, reminds everyone that “you’ve got a friend in me.” 💙🕊️

If you find your young kids tapping their toes, clapping out rhythms, or belting their favorite songs on the radio, it might be time to consider signing-up for the Fair Lawn Schools music program 🎶

Whether it’s buzzy brass or the spirited sound of strings, fourth through eighth graders across the district can choose from a plethora of musical instruments or vocal opportunities in elementary and middle school. Lessons are taught by our spectacularly talented music staff, with opportunities to perform in winter & spring concerts 🎺🎻

If you want an up-close look at our orchestras, bands, and choruses, just take a look at our highlights! On top of sounding great and learning from the best of the best, there’s a lot of benefits to being a young musician. A 2023 University of Southern California study found that music education contributes to enhanced creativity & confidence, better student performance, and so much more 🥁🎹

Swipe through to scan individual QR codes for sign-ups at the elementary and middle school levels. Pull-out lessons begin Tuesday, September 15! ➡️➡️➡️

“The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he’s the one who asks the right questions.” - Claude Lévi-Strauss

Did you know that fourth graders across all six elementary schools took part in a collective STEM project right at the end of the school year? Put on your thinking caps and let’s dive into the details for this Feel Good Friday (summer edition).

Science Specialist Ms. Lindsey Zarwi worked closely with teachers to create the Chain Reaction Machine Design Challenge. Following classroom-based journaling and lessons on how energy is stored/released/transferred, each school had a big build day. And let us tell you… these build days were nothing short of spectacular. We watched as students snagged items like Hot Wheels tracks, dominoes, paper towel tubes, and got to work. You truly could see the “gears turning” in their young minds as they tackled rounds of trial and error until finding a solution that rang a silver bell at the base of their design ⚙️

Swipe for a small sampling of their successful science experiments - we hope it inspires you to get a little crafty this weekend!

It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that bling! 💍 📣

Time to shine brighter than the hazy sky outside because it’s Feel Good Friday and we’re celebrating FLHS Cheerleading. Taking a pause from summer break, the team held a very special ring ceremony this week to commemorate their 2026 NJCDCA state championship win in the “Large/Mega All Music Division” as well as a Sportsmanship Award! 🏅

We captured the moment alongside a crowd of loved ones, smiling as they posed with their new, sparkling hardware (zoom in… it’s a pretty serious ring). As their coaches beamed, “You’re always hoping to help your athletes become stronger, more confident, more resilient. But every once in a while, you’re lucky enough to coach a group that gives just as much back to you. This team was that group.” 🥹✨

Keep up the phenomenal work, FLHS Cheer. We’ll “tumble for ya” anytime, anywhere!

Bravo, felicidades, complimenti, parabéns! 🥳🤩

We’re passing along a few words of praise this Multilingual Motivational Monday to Fair Lawn High School graduates who earned the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy!

You may have read up on this awesome news in Dr. Dionisio’s end-of-year Corner Column, but we figured it was worth a little summertime boost for such a big accomplishment! Here’s some Class of 2026 quick facts:

🇫🇷 Sixty-one seniors met the NJ Seal of Biliteracy across nine different languages.
🇨🇳 Six of these students earned additional recognition for 2 different languages other than English

Needless to say, if you run into any of these grads this summer, be sure to chat them up in the language of their choice!

Graduation Drop 2: The One Where Seniors Get Creative 🎨

One thing that stops us in our tracks every year is the incredible designs FLHS seniors pull off on their caps. Sparkles to sequins, photographs to poignant words - you name it, we've snapped a photo of it! 📸

We are consistently amazed at the time and effort that goes into making these mortarboards individually unique, but together complete. Scroll on through and take a look for yourself!
