Doc Palmer: Fueling Power, Structural & Technology Systems โ๏ธ
As part of our nysffa New York FFA Association educational display at The Great New York State Fair, Hamilton FFA interviewed local individuals representing the eight pillars of agriculture. Today, weโre proud to feature Doc Palmer.
Doc got his start in agriculture growing up on a small dairy farm in Lebanon, NY, launchings his repair business as a high school junior. Active in the Sherburne FFA chapter, Doc loved competing in Chapter Meeting contests, attended the Washington Leadership Conference, and won the 1983 Eastern Regional Proficiency Award in Ag Mechanics! ๐
After earning his degree in Ag Engineering from Morrisville College in 1985, Doc spent 30 years with the Madison County Highway Department (1992โ2022), serving as a mechanic and foreman keeping public works equipment season-ready. All while working for the county, he ran Doc's Repair Shop in Randallsville, NY during the evenings! ๐ง
Today, Docโs Repair Shop handles 500 to 600 small engine repairs annuallyโservicing lawnmowers, generators, water pumps, and snowblowers. His shop even offers a popular seasonal "winterizing" service, picking up, storing, servicing, and returning equipment for customers every spring. ๐
Fun Facts:
Doc's family keeps the ag and mechanical traditions alive: his son Greg owns Empire Vac, and his daughter Lindsey is an Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor at Fabius-Pompey Central School Agriculture fabiuspompey_ag.ffa ๐
Over 40โ50% of Doc's repair business happens during the busy spring rush in April, May, and June! ๐๏ธ
