Learning by doing—and giving back! 💪

Today, our students had the opportunity to help the Excelsior Springs Community Center put up the dome over the outdoor pool!

Experiences like this are a great example of service learning in action. Our students get to take the skills they’re developing in the classroom and apply them in a real-world setting while also giving back to the community.

We’re incredibly grateful for community partners like the Excelsior Springs Community Center who provide our students with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. These partnerships help students build technical skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence—all while seeing firsthand the value of serving their community.

Career and Technical Education is about more than preparing students for a career. It’s about preparing them to be skilled, engaged members of their community.

🦺 Building Skills. Earning Credentials. Preparing for the Future.

Students in our Electrical Trades, HVAC, and Carpentry programs are taking another step toward their future by earning their OSHA 10 Safety Certification!

One of the many advantages of Career and Technical Education is the opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience while also earning industry-recognized credentials—before they even graduate from high school.

Whether our students plan to enter the workforce, continue their education, pursue an apprenticeship, or take another path after graduation, these experiences help them build the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to be successful.

We’re proud to give students opportunities to explore careers, develop real-world skills, and graduate with credentials already on their résumé.

Our Electrical Trades students are putting their skills to work at the baseball fields—troubleshooting existing systems and installing new lighting in equipment closets. It’s hands-on experience that brings classroom learning to life.

We were so honored to recognize outstanding Career and Technical Education students at our Annual Awards Ceremony, Thursday, April 30, 2026. Scholarship recipients, professionals of the year, perfect attendance, and SkillsUSA state medalists were recognized. It was an amazing night of celebrating our students! SkillsUSA Missouri Sheet Metal state medalists and Excelsior Springs Area Career Center HVAC students, Henry Crowley and Payton Vosika, received tool set prizes sponsored by SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 Central MO. Tool bags were filled with items donated by American Metals Supply , Brauer Supply Company, Midwest Tool , Jefferson City Winair, Columbia Winnelson Co. and Milwaukee Tool.

Henry, a senior from Excelsior Springs High School, placed 2nd and Payton, a senior from Lawson School District, placed 3rd at SkillsUSA Missouri state contest in the Sheet Metal event.
