Shout out to Katherine Spuckes (Elementary Education iSTEM '26 and current M.Ed in Integrative STEM Education '27) for running a very engaging PD teacher workshop at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and then two days later presenting the resources at the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) conference in Charlotte!

The work was entitled, Read-Alouds to Design Challenges: Using Picture Books to Introduce Engineering in K-5 Classrooms and Katherine curated a list of picture books that are grade level appropriate for teaching literacy while covering engineering habits of mind, the engineering design process, and careers and representation in engineering.

🎉 Big news!🎉
The (STEP Office) Office of Support for Teacher Education Programs is now…

✨✨The Office of Educator Preparation & Partnerships!

Our new name reflects who we've become and the work we do every day—preparing exceptional future educators throughout their preparation while building meaningful partnerships with schools, districts, cooperating teachers, alumni, and the communities we serve. Although our name is new, our mission hasn't changed. We're still here to guide, support, and champion our educator candidates, faculty, cooperating teachers, school partners, and alumni.

📧 New email: [email protected]

We look forward to continuing to serve the School of Education under our new name!

Our 2026 NJACTE Distinguished Clinical Intern Awardees were recently honored at a state ceremony & reception, alongside their clinical teachers and other finalists from educator preparation programs across New Jersey. Out of TCNJ's 328 student teachers for 2025-2026, 7 were nominated for the award, and three finalists were selected: Aidan Hulse (pictured), Sophia Pruneau (pictured), and Katherine Spuckes. This is a tremendous (and competitive) honor for our nominees and our finalists, and we are so proud! Congratulations!

Hands up for ASL! 🤟 TCNJ’s School of Education recently hosted our second ASL Fun Day, bringing together students from three NJ high schools for a day of language, culture, and connection.

From a powerful keynote by Noah Buchholz (Princeton University) to ASL storytelling workshops and Deaf Culture trivia, the energy was incredible! 🎓✨ The event serves a vital mission: connecting hearing students learning ASL with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who use ASL as their native language.

Huge thanks to our coordinators Melanie Phillips, Heather Osowski, and Steven Singer, as well as the Deaf and Hearing Connection for making these new friendships possible! 💙🦁
