We celebrated Day Without Hate Today at RMAE! Day Without Hate began as an idea at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, Colorado. In 2007, after yet another tragic school shooting, English teacher Ben Reed asked his students what could be done about the influx of school hatred and violence. Their answer: a day where no one is allowed to hate. Thus, the movement began promoting the core ideals of nonviolence, respect, and unity at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the world.

To enrich their study of The Odyssey, some advanced RMAE 6th grade ELA students worked with partners to design and build a model using recycled materials from our Maker Space to represent key islands from Odysseus’s journey. Once they selected specific islands, they then incorporated details from the text into their model. They also wrote summaries highlighting important settings, characters, and events from each chapter. After completing the project, students will present their model to the class and explain how their designs connect to specific moments in the story.

Please join us for a night of Arts and Culture. Middle School students (required attendance) will present in the art show and musical performance. Many families will prepare and share cuisine from their different cultural backgrounds. All RMAE families and students are welcome to attend. More details to come!
