Treena McCurdy, Local Childcare Consultant, Cultural Care Au Pair

Treena McCurdy, Local Childcare Consultant, Cultural Care Au Pair I provide year-round support to host families and au pairs, and guide families considering hosting an au pair. Choosing childcare is no easy decision.

As a former au pair myself, I bring firsthand experience and enjoy supporting families and au pairs through connection and community. Because as parents, we don’t ever want to compromise on quality, flexibility and trust when finding care for the most important people in the world. Hosting a Cultural Care au pair gives thousands of families across the country those very important benefits. I invit

e you to learn more about who our au pairs are, what they do, and why more families than ever are joining our program. For over 25 years, Cultural Care Au Pair has helped host families across the country secure childcare that provides flexibility, trust and cultural exchange. Our families love welcoming au pairs year after year. Cultural Care au pairs are carefully screened young adults from over 25 countries worldwide who have childcare experience, CPR and First Aid certification and an interest in joining an American family for a year. FLEXIBILITY
An au pair can provide up to 45 hours per week of childcare (up to 10 hours per day) on a schedule you decide, including early morning, evening and weekend coverage. Au pairs can also care for your children when they are sick, out from school on snow days and during school vacations. Families with busy schedules love hosting au pairs! TRUST
Because an au pair lives with you as a member of your family, your relationship with her develops quickly and mutual trust happens much faster than with a daycare provider or live-out nanny. After an initial period of adjustment, our host parents describe feeling a deep sense of comfort knowing their children are cared for by someone they know and respect. CULTURE
Au pairs come from many countries all over the world and can expose your entire family to their language and culture. Your children will learn words in your au pair’s native tongue and well as songs and games from her home country. Au pairs also help children gain a renewed appreciation for their own environment and a desire to see more of the world. PROTECTION
Cultural Care Au Pair is a government-regulated program, meaning there are guidelines in place designed to protect both families and au pairs during the exchange year. It also means that au pairs travel to the U.S. on a legal J-1 visa, allowing them to stay in the country (and with your family) for up to two years.

"It feels like yesterday that we picked up Pao in our family Suburban on a fall night from the Charleston airport. Of course, we got Chik-fil-A for dinner on the way home, and as we sat down to eat our four children instantly gravitated towards her and subsequently chatted her up the whole 4-hour drive home.
She fits in seamlessly (as well) with both our extended families and very much enjoys speaking Spanish with Kristin's dad! It must be said that she hasn't seen her parents since she so bravely flew to America, and even still her Christmas presents for the kids were the first ones under the tree this year; a tree with Pao ornaments on it across from her winter gnome stocking. We absolutely love Pao and couldn't have such full and enriched lives without her. She makes this family whole, and we are so excited to spend another New Year with her.” – Michael, host dad in South Carolina.

Spring is officially here and summer planning is already underway. Camps are filling up fast, and schedules tend to book quickly this time of year. Instead of juggling waitlists or last-minute childcare, many families are turning to a more flexible, in-home solution that adapts to their summer routine. Hosting an au pair means built-in support for the season ahead — from pool days and park adventures to everyday care right at home.

Curious if hosting could be a fit for your family this summer? I’d love to connect and answer any questions.

"Oliwia has been caring for our daughter, Simona, since she was just three months old. Simona is now 21 months old, and in that time Oliwia has become an essential part of our family. We truly cannot imagine this stage of our daughter’s life without her. Oliwia is endlessly positive, happy, and nurturing. She has a unique ability to handle stressful or emotional moments with silliness, patience, and kindness. What stands out most about Oliwia is her heart. She brings joy, stability, and genuine love into everything she does. We feel incredibly lucky to have had her help shape our daughter’s earliest years, and we know the impact she has had on Simona will last far beyond this time. Oliwia is one of those rare people who makes everyone around her better, and our family is forever grateful for her. – Aleksandra, host mom in Virginia.

The early days with a newborn are full of love, change, and a lot of unknowns. Having someone by your side during this time can make everything feel a little more manageable. Because childcare should feel like support, not stress.
