A young-ish person on the site asked me if he should have his new to him Cessna 150 be treated with a corrosion proofing, as many people do. I told him I thought is was a very good idea.

However:

Doesn't make sense if the interior of the fuselage, wings & control surfaces are dirty or coated with any oils or, maybe years of unrinsed off dried soaps from washing. The material you are spending lots of money on will just sit on top of the crud not doing it's job.

In restoring our Cardinal, we actually crawled down the tail with cleaners, solvents & then steam cleaning to get to all the nooks & crannies (what's a cranny???) & forward under the deck. All the control surfaces were dunked in a large tub I concocted to soak out the interior areas. Anyone who has pulled the seats to clean the interior belly will tell you it is a chore. But there is a great deal of satisfaction in doing this.

This month we acquired a plane (1975 Cessna 177B) that was pretty much left to rot away by a man who's life got taken over by events. He hung on to a dream, but as many can attest, time moves on and life can rob your dreams.

The last time this plane flew was in 2009 & it was not prepared for long term storage. Paine Field at Everett, WA is at 600 feet surrounded by salt water. While not killer like the Gulf of Mexico coast or the SE Atlantic coast, it is not Victorville, CA either. So we did not really have much hope, thinking saving some parts for other planes.

We started the disassembly process 20 MAR 2026 & see there are some good things being revealed. More will be revealed as we continue this stage.

Our goal is is to make it fly again. If we need to we have parts from our beloved 177B that got ditched in July 2025 that survived. And, failing that, we may have parts to help others keep their 177's flying.

ChinookFlight is fully moving to the Care & Service of S & E LSA aircraft in Washington. We are now a ROTAX Service Center with three Certified IRMT's for your ROTAX engine.

We now have experience in Bristell, ICON, Van's, Slings and Kitfox aircraft and look forward to helping you with yours.
