This week, community members came together to eat, pick out donated costumes and outgrown Falcon gear, and have some fun in the gym. It was lovely to see kids, adults, and staff members enjoying time together. Thank you to an awesome team of volunteers and to everyone who donated clothing or food for the event!

Esta semana, los miembros de la comunidad se unieron para comer, elegir disfraces donados y ropa de los "Falcons" que ya no les quedaba, además de divertirse en el gimnasio. Fue maravilloso ver a niños, adultos y miembros del personal pasando tiempo juntos. ¡Gracias al fantástico equipo de voluntarios y a todos los que donaron ropa o alimentos para el evento!

By celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we strengthen connections with community (and sometimes with our own families)... If you can, take a moment to talk with your student about where they might be able to add a sticker on our new Community Celebrations bulletin board.

🇨🇱 Have they tried empanadas? Add a sticker to Chile or Argentina!
🇵🇷 Have they listened to Danza Kuduro? Stick one on Puerto Rico!
🇭🇳 Do they have a classmate from Honduras? Add a sticker!
🇪🇸 Did they watch the World Cup? If their favorite team was from a Hispanic (Spanish-speaking) country, add a sticker!

Families, we invite you to come add your own stars, too (after checking in at the office, of course). Enjoy connecting with our Hispanic/Latin@ community!

From September 15 through October 15, we give extra recognition to the contributions of Hispanic and Latin@ communities across the U.S. and within our Emerson family. These contributions include classic art, popular food, advocacy work, catchy music, and a language spoken every day at our school. Our Hispanic and Latin@ neighbors enrich our community, and this month we celebrate their heritage.

Washington State PTA is hosting the first ever Essay Prompt Contest!

Every year, the PTA runs an essay contest open to Kindergarteners through 12th Graders, giving them a chance to share their ideas, creativity, thoughtfulness, great ideas, and their writing skills. Through this contest, we aim to inspire and encourage creativity in young minds across the state.

This year, we are introducing another contest to accompany the essay contest – the Essay Prompt Contest! In this contest, students tell us something they would like to write about – a prompt for the actual essay contest. From September 1 to October 12 at 10:00 PM, students can send their ideas for a thoughtful, creative, deep, and interesting prompt to be selected. If their prompt/theme is selected, they will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card and be honored at the student programs celebration! There are separate categories for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. From each category, the top 3 prompts will be selected.

Please consider registering for this important workshop if you have time! "Hosted by WSPTA FACE and DEI teams in collaboration with Indigenous leaders, we will review some cautions when collaborating and talk about Land Acknowledgements. We will explore which Indigenous Peoples live, work, play, learn, and care for the same land you share today. Their ancestors have done so since time immemorial. This workshop will set you on a course for alliance."
