We wish to give a HUGE shout out to Nichole at the Everett Costco for the fantastic tour of your store! You went above and beyond, for the second year in a row, to give the children an amazing experience. Your tour not only included the various departments of the store, but also tied in to our study of buildings! You are amazing! Best field trip ever!
We walked the children over to Costco and met up with Nichole. She gave each of the children name badges and went over the safety rules. Nichole asked them how old they thought the building was (41 years), and if they knew what the building was called. She explained that Costco is a warehouse about the size of 3 football fields! The children tried to guess how many people work at Costco (about 350). She asked them to tell her what the biggest door in the building is, and asked why they thought the 11 big doors are so big. She pointed out the roof, and the walls, and explained that the ceiling is high to make room for tall shelves. Nichole asked them what the floor is made of, then told them concrete is very strong and can hold heavy forklifts and thousands of products. She then asked them how many people they thought came into to store every day (4,000 - 5,000). The children were able to tour the produce cooler, bakery, front end, and optical departments as they walked around the store.
