Officer Coats, and Officer Alexander from the Everett Police Department came to visit and talk with the children about personal safety. This is something parents may want to practice at home. Just ask your kinds to teach it to you! If approached by a stranger hold out your hand and yell "Stop!" Then yell "Don't touch!" Run away and yell and tell an adult what happened.

We went to go visit our favorite librarian, Aarene, at the Everett Library! Aarene read stories, sang, and played her ukulele for the children. Then she took them to the children's section of the library. Magical! Did we mention that Aarene's our favorite librarian?!

As we began our unit on Pets, we took a field trip to PetsMart to look at the different pets they have and the supplies you need to take care of a pet. The children especially loved the kittens, fish, and guinea pigs!

Children's Learning Center had the honor of participating in National Night Out on August 4th! We had a table set up with brochures, bubbles, and a temporary tattoo station! The tattoos were especially popular with all the children (and some adults, too)! Thank you Family Tree Apartments for allowing us to participate!

We wish to give a HUGE shout out to Nichole at the Everett Costco for the fantastic tour of your store! You went above and beyond, for the second year in a row, to give the children an amazing experience. Your tour not only included the various departments of the store, but also tied in to our study of buildings! You are amazing! Best field trip ever!

We walked the children over to Costco and met up with Nichole. She gave each of the children name badges and went over the safety rules. Nichole asked them how old they thought the building was (41 years), and if they knew what the building was called. She explained that Costco is a warehouse about the size of 3 football fields! The children tried to guess how many people work at Costco (about 350). She asked them to tell her what the biggest door in the building is, and asked why they thought the 11 big doors are so big. She pointed out the roof, and the walls, and explained that the ceiling is high to make room for tall shelves. Nichole asked them what the floor is made of, then told them concrete is very strong and can hold heavy forklifts and thousands of products. She then asked them how many people they thought came into to store every day (4,000 - 5,000). The children were able to tour the produce cooler, bakery, front end, and optical departments as they walked around the store.

We wish to thank the Safeway Silver Lake for giving us a tour of the store! The children were able to get a flower from the floral department, and a mandarin orange from the produce department. They saw the seafood and meat departments. One of their favorite departments was the bakery. They enjoyed the cookie they got there! At the deli counter they got a chicken nugget! The barista at the Starbucks gave them some hot chocolate! Again, Thank you Safeway Silver Lake for the fun tour of your store!

We have been studying Buildings: What do they look like in our neighborhood?
Who builds buildings? What tools do they use? What are buildings made of? What makes them strong? What is special about our building? As part of the study, we talked about our building and who works here. They named the teachers, and were then challenged to think if there were other people in our building. One of the children said, “There’s people upstairs!” So we took a little trip out of our school to go investigate! They saw the offices of the apartment complex manager and the assistant manager, as well as the maintenance manager. We then went into a really big room that the Resident Services Coordinator, Dominique, called the Community Room. That’s where they hold meetings, and have a special program for children who live at the apartments to come to when school is out and do activities with Dominique. During the school year they have a Homework Club. There’s also a room with games and toys and comfy couches and chairs. We saw Dominique’s office, and a computer lab, and a kitchen! Thanks for showing us what happens in the building besides our school!

Our first field trip of the summer was a safety talk and ride with Amelia from Everett Transit. She read the book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” to the children, followed by a talk about how to be safe around and on the transit bus. The children then got to take a ride to the Everett Mall Transit Center, get off the bus, and then back on another bus to head back to school. Now they will know what to expect, and what is expected of them on the rest of our bus rides to our other summer field trips! Thank you Amelia and Everett Transit for helping our children stay safe!
