Music That I Teach

The music you listen to and want to learn is a very important yardstick in your search for a private music instructor.

This 2 minute video will inform you on the general music formats that I have taught students. I will also demonstrate these music forms in the ensuing performance compilation. Your viewing investment in this video will also prompt you to think about what music formats carry the most meaning to you as you search for a teacher who is truly interested in accommodating your music preferences.

Psycho Killer was the song that put the Talking Heads on the map when it was finally released on their first album in 1977. I attribute a large part of the success to Tina Weymouth's creative bass lines which provided a much needed foundation for the rhythmic counterpoint of the lyrics which are haunting, comedic, and memorable - even if you wanted to forget them.

The intro and verse bass hook simply pulses on very straight quarter-note pulse which serves as a great exercise for beginning bassists to work on keeping consistent meter within the pocket of the drums. The notable Chorus bass riff uses the same fi*****ng sequence at the 3rd fret and 5th fret and then provides some very nice syncopation that makes for a very nice segue to repeating the same line again.
