The Center for International Programs of USI provides ways for international students to have a greater immersion during their stay in the U.S. The CIP builds link with many local institutions mostly nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity of Evansville, Lifesong Academy, Mesker Park zoo, Patchwork Central, United Caring Services, West Terrace Elementary School, and so forth. Students can learn an
d serve the community while enlarging their network and becoming more connected to the people in our community. Our hope is for students to gain experiential learning that will help them to take action, to make a difference either by replicating models they learned or inspiring from them as they go back to their home country. We try to be as diverse as possible to make the experience even more meaningful. CIP believes that community service is "Learn to serve and Serve to Learn". As students do community service we expect that they will get a greater picture of Evansville, increase their awareness of the world's global related issues, also widen their professional career opportunities by enhancing their resume with community service completion. The good thing about volunteering is that every hour completed is not equivalent to an hour of work but rather a life change.
