When a massive storm hit Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, our Envirolok vegetated system was tested right as the new growth had just started taking root—and it stood strong against the powerful floodwaters!

Shoreline Restoration Update: Protecting Lake Delevan 🌊🌱
Heavy runoff, harsh winter ice push, and relentless wave action can take a serious toll on lakefront property, breaking down bank integrity over time.

This recent restoration project—installed by Arbor Earth & Stone—uses a hybrid approach to tackle those exact challenges. By pairing a low-angle stone toe with the Envirolok system, we build long-term stability into the shoreline while enhancing the natural beauty of the property.

Why This Hybrid Design Works:
Wave & Ice Energy Dissipation: The low-angle stone toe absorbs wave energy and accommodates ice movement as it pushes toward shore, significantly reducing bank damage.

Wildlife Access: The gradual slope makes it far easier for local wildlife to transition safely between land and water.

Erosion & Runoff Control: The Envirolok vegetated wall system stabilizes upper slopes and filters stormwater runoff before it reaches the lake.

The new plantings were just installed and are officially ready to take root! Native vegetation will soon anchor the system deep into the soil for lasting strength.

🌿 Project Spotlight: Amoco Fish & Habitat Restoration 🐟
We are thrilled to share the incredible story of the Amoco Fish and Habitat Restoration project! Located on the 23-acre site of a former fuel refinery, this initiative has begun to breathe new life into the local ecosystem and the economy. Over 4,250 metric tons of decades worth of unnatural fill were removed, restoring nearly 10 acres of vital coastal wetland and natural shoreline habitat. 🌊
Envirolok was installed to ensure long-term stability and protection of the shoreline and adjacent trail system. By combining the natural, vegetative strength of Envirolok with traditional rip rap, 300+ linear feet of shoreline have been restored. 🚴‍♂️🛡️
