The Eykamp String Quartet will be presenting their Faculty Recital on October 6th at 7:30PM at Wheeler Concert Hall.

The concert features Mozart's visceral and experimental Adagio and Fugue, Clarice Assad’s melding of South American song and dance in her Canções de America, Puccini’s melancholic Crisantemi, and Dmitiri Shostakovich’s monumental and autobiographic String Quartet No. 8. Admission is free and open to the public.

• UE Symphony Orchestra (Conducted by Jean Gómez) — Featuring Nate Arrington on a brilliant Tartini Trumpet Concerto, followed by Prokofiev’s dramatic Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet.

• UE Wind Ensemble (Conducted by Aaron K. Campbell) — Bringing the energy with Fukuda's Dancing in the Wind and Balmages' dynamic Arabian Dances.

The UE Music Conservatory welcomed nearly 400 high school choral singers from 12 high schools in southern Indiana for a full day of singing under guest conductors Jami Rhodes Galloway and Jonathan Palant, listening to the UE University Choir, and learning about UE. On Tuesday, September 22, Alanna Keenan and Anne Fiedler will present a program of art song from the 20th century. The program begins with a set of songs by Ottorino Respighi. Primarily known for his orchestral works, these songs display an affinity to the Italian operatic tradition of Bellini and his contemporaries including Puccini.

The centerpiece of the program is Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder. This song cycle explores themes of guilt and loss through the lens of a grieving parent. Originally scored for orchestra, the reduction to piano and voice lend an air of intimacy and highlight the interplay between text and music.

The program continues with Ravel’s Deux mélodies hébraïques. In this set, Ravel blends his contemporary harmonic language with pre-existing folk melodies.

Eykamp String Quartet cellist, Graham Cullen, joins for the final set of the program: two songs of American composer, Jake Heggie.

Robert Nicholls plays a concert of keyboard music on the Dowd harpsichord, opening with J.S. Bach's "English" Suite No.2 in A Minor.

Robert will then improvise a Passacaglia on four notes, spinning out an entire piece of music on-the-spot.

The program concludes with guest stars, Dr. Leanne Hampton (flute), Mark Hatelstad (viola), and Graham Cullen (cello) playing J. S. Bach's sixth Trio Sonata in G major arranged by Robert for instruments with Basso Continuo brought to life on the harpsichord.

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Dr. Mary Ellen Wylie on June 7, 2026.

Professor of Music at the University of Evansville, Dr. Wylie joined the UE faculty in 1991. Until her retirement in 2020, Dr. Wylie served as Director of the Music Therapy program, taught core courses in the music therapy degree, supervised music therapy practica, and coordinated student internship placements throughout the United States. In addition, she served as UE Music Co-Chair. Dr. Wylie received the UE Outstanding Teacher Award at Commencement in 2017, receiving a record number of nominations from students, alumni and faculty,

Dr. Wylie was recognized as a distinguished leader nationally. She gave numerous presentations at national, regional, and state music therapy conferences and was published in the Journal of Music Therapy and Music Therapy Perspectives. Dr. Wylie served as President Elect, President and Past President of the American Music Therapy Association, (a total of 6 years ). In 2010, she received the Honorary Life Member Award, and in 2019 the prestigious Service Award, citing her distinguished contributions made over the years in the music therapy profession.

Dr. Wylie loved teaching and was devoted to mentoring her students to become the next generation of leaders. She was determined to expand the practice of music therapy to institutions, hospitals and schools as an effective treatment for client support. A champion of both her profession and her students, Dr. Wylie will be remembered fondly as a teacher, mentor, and practitioner.
