An educational program geared toward high school teachers/ counselors in the SW IN region that promotes the benefits of careers in today's manufacturing.
Manufacturing is a very important component of the economy in Indiana providing 30% of the state’s earnings. It also provides high wages for the people engaged in manufacturing with an annual average of about $70,000. However, the retirement rate for manufacturing is increasing rapidly as the skills gap for the incoming workers continues to grow. This Bootcamp is one of the efforts underway in Sou
thwest Indiana to help combat this trend and you are an important part of the solution. Over the course of the two weeks, teachers will have the opportunity to visit and learn from four of the major manufacturers in Southwest Indiana: Alcoa, SABIC, Toyota and Berry Plastics. These companies have stepped up with both time and money to help enlighten about what they do, what skills they need, how well their employees are treated and how teachers can help them fill their needs. These teachers will also have the opportunity to visit Ivy Tech, University of Southern Indiana and Oakland City University. These educational partners have stepped up as well. They are working closely with the manufacturers to fill the training needs in Southwest Indiana. Oakland City University is offering you the opportunity to receive continuing education units as well as credit toward a Master’s Degree.
