Today has been a very good day! This morning we got to celebrate Savanah Summerfield, a History major who is graduating in May. She was selected from a large field of amazing candidates to be one of the 10 finalists for the Outstanding Senior Service Award. Savanah has had a large impact on campus, in the classroom, and in the community. She has been a fantastic intern for Tom Lonnberg at the Evansville Museum, and she has been a really terrific student board member for the Vanderburgh County Historical Society, among very many other things. We are all so proud of you, Savannah, and we know that you're going to do great things as you had off to graduate school. Congratulations!!

In among all the countless bad things happening in the world, sometimes really good things happen to really great people. This morning the college of arts and sciences Dean’s teaching award was presented to Dr. Dan Byrne. To say that this is a well-deserved and long overdue recognition is a massive understatement. I would be stunned if there was a single professor on campus who dedicated more time, care, thought, and attention to students and their work than Dan. A brilliant mind, and a fantastic person. Here’s to you, Dr Byrne. Congratulations from all of us!
