New Desert Tree song out today: “Kings of the West Side.”

This one takes me back to summer nights on Evansville’s west side—campfires, baseball games, four-wheelers, swimming pools, loud music, and a group of friends who thought those days would last forever.

The older I get, the more I realize this song isn’t really about summer. It’s about friendship, boyhood, and missing a time in life that can never quite be recreated.

Most of the songs I’ve released lately have come from grief, rebuilding, and learning how to live after losing a family life I thought would last forever.

This one is different.

It’s a laid-back folk-country song about wanting to stay comfortable, keep life simple, and do ordinary things in sweatpants and boots all day long.

Honestly, it may be the closest thing I’ve written to my actual sense of humor.
