Hello all! I’m Zorah, a member of SOC EVV, and we asking for your help in removing Harrison High School’s use of a Native mascot and the name “Warriors”.
As you scroll through the post, you’ll be directed to peer-reviewed resources on the subject of Native mascots and their harmful nature towards students, Native and non-Native alike. Turning a racial minority into a mascot is not only incredibly dehumanizing, but perpetuates stereotypes and has been shown to psychologically damage Native students. The EVSC has taken a pledge to foster “supportive, academically challenging, culturally inclusive, and equitable learning environments” in their 2020 Community Equity Letter, and yet, they have done nothing to address the racist nature of Harrison’s mascot.
In addition to your show of support, I have sent out formal emails to the Harrison administration, the EVSC School Board, Superintendent Dressel, and Chief Diversity Officer Hood asking them to make a pledge that they will remove the mascot. Please note, that while a pledge is a step in the right direction, this issue will not be fully solved until the mascot has been removed and replaced.
I ask that you share your support in any way possible, whether it’s dropping a like on this post, signing the petition linked below, or DMing this account with your feelings towards the mascot. You don’t have to be a Harrison student or the parent of one to care. Racism is a community issue.
Thank you.

Our hearts are beyond heavy for black americans in Minneapolis and nationwide. Time and time again black americans have had to prove that their lives matter. After serving for 26 years, you know where your duty weapon is vs. your taser, you know the weight of a gun vs. a taser, and you know the color of a gun vs. a taser. Daunte was a father, son, nephew, brother, but above all, he was HUMAN and that should have been enough.

We will not be there at the riverfront today (April 4th). Enjoy your Easter Sunday, and if you don’t celebrate that, enjoy the beautiful weather. We’ll see you next week!
