As Kids’ Screen Time Surges During The Pandemic, Here’s What Research Suggests The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recommends that children can attend to quality educational entertainment via technology when the content supports children’s learning.

Are you a parent in the Chicago area? Do you have a child aged 5 to 8? We invite you and your child to participate in a research study (IRB # STU00206895, P.I.: Ellen Wartella) about children and voice interaction! You and your child will be interviewed in your home twice and will use a smart speaker for 2 weeks. To participate in this study, you must NOT currently have a smart speaker (Google Home, Amazon Echo or similar) at home. You will also be asked to complete a survey. The study requires two home visits of about 1 hour each. You will be given one $50 visa gift card as compensation for your participation. For more information, please email us at [email protected].

Parents of 3-year olds... An exciting research study, Advancing Early STEM Learning through Haptic Feedback Displays (STU00201380), is currently looking for children to participate in a research study. To be eligible for the study, you must have a 3-year old child who has NOT played the app Bunny Balance. Your child will first be asked to play some games with our researcher then play an interactive app on a touchscreen for ten minutes. Your child will then be asked some questions about the app and complete some tasks. During this time, you will be asked to complete a survey. The session will be audio- and video-recorded for research purposes. Your family will receive $15 for participating.
