J Street U Northwestern

J Street U Northwestern J Street U Northwestern is part of a national movement dedicated to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

We offer a wide range of educational and social programming and a forum for discussions centered on the theme of peace in Israel. We know that the fates of both peoples are intertwined. Advocating for Israel necessitates advocating for Palestinian statehood, and we defend and support the right of both the Jewish and Palestinian peoples to sovereignty and security in democratic, self-governing stat

es. We recognize that the ongoing occupation and settlement of the Palestinian territories is politically unsustainable and morally untenable. We envision an Israel that respects and guarantees human and civil rights to all its inhabitants, an Israel that lives at peace with its neighbors along internationally recognized borders, an Israel that reflects the promise of its founding declaration — to be a country “based on the precepts of liberty, justice and peace.”

Many of us are students frustrated by a polarized climate on our campuses and a narrow conversation in our politics, where too often blame for the conflict is placed either entirely on Israel or entirely on the Palestinians. Many of us are Americans inspired by the democratic ideals of freedom, rule of law, and equality. We laugh, we disagree, and we learn a lot from one another. We ask only that our members be willing to listen to each other, and that they bring open minds alongside their personal perspectives.

As Israel’s prime minister and ruling party openly makes common cause with proponents of ethnic cleansing and right-wing terror, pro-Israel Americans cannot remain silent.

We just called 312-380-8800 (The Israeli Consulate in Chicago) to oppose the demolition of Khan al- Ahmar. Join us in calling the consulate to stand up to demolitions, evictions and settlement expansion.

The Israeli government has begun preparations to demolish the Palestinian village of Khan al-Ahmar. The destruction of this community would displace 180 Palestinians and clear the way for Israel to expand settlements into the contentious E1 Area, thereby forming a block that would separate East Jeru...

J Street U Northwestern would like to thank Representative Jan Schakowsky for speaking out against the impending demolitions in the Palestinian village of Susya. Congresswoman Schakowsky's strong leadership should serve as an example to all political leaders as to how protect Palestinian human rights and the possibility of a two-state solution.

We just delivered 40,000 petitions collected by J Street, Ameinu, New Israel Fund and Partners for Progressive Israel telling Senators to OPPOSE Trump's dangerous choice for US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman.

And today, hundreds of J Street activists are on Capitol Hill telling their Senators to vote no on Friedman's confirmation. Add your voice to theirs by calling your Senators today. Numbers and scripts can be found at http://jstreet.org/call-congress

Senator Tammy Duckworth: 202-224-2854

David Friedman backs unlimited settlement expansion, has accused President Obama of being an anti-Semite and says that liberal Zionists are "worse than kapos." Tell your Senators to reject his nomination to be the next US Ambassador to Israel.

"If American Jews are to take leadership in the fight for social justice and equality, let Susya be the first test."

Check out this piece in today's The Daily Northwestern from Ben Weinberg and Dan Toubman!

The result of last week’s election challenged the values that many students on this campus hold dear. A Trump presidency poses dangerous threats to our country’s most vulnerable people. Trump’s policies could shut out immigrants, entrench a discriminatory criminal justice system and limit women’s ri...

In his last few months in office, what kind of role can President Obama play in ending the occupation and furthering a two-state solution?

Come join us Sunday at 3pm at What is J Street U? to talk about what it means to be pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian, and pro-peace!

The latest Israeli settlement in the West Bank makes it more urgent for the United Nations to help forge a peace agreement with the Palestinians.
