We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the City of Evanston’s new yard cart program. One of our customers asked why he should continue to use The Urban Canopy’s Compost Club service. Here are some differences between our service and the City's updated service via LRS:
• Our containers come pre-lined with compostable liners
• We remove your full bin and replace it with a freshly washed and sanitized one each service day. This means your bin and the area around it will be cleaner and attract fewer critters.
• We swap your compost bucket from almost anywhere you want, like your front porch, so you don’t have to carry your compostable material to the alley
• We accept more material than the City/LRS. In addition to all food waste and paper towels, we also accept certified (by BPI or CMA) compostable disposables—not just bags—that you might use for a party or event.
• We offer rewards to our members. You can use the rewards to get up to 15 gallons of free finished compost and you can buy additional 5 gallon buckets of finished compost at any time.
Support of the Compost Club is also support of a locally owned small business. In addition to picking up compost, we have several projects to better the Chicagoland food system, and we regularly donate profits to local mutual aid and food rescue groups.

Composting, everywhere, all the time. That has been my motto. How happy was I to see compost buckets at a party I was attending? (Very!) And the best part? I did not bring them! Thanks Stan!

Hey all you Robert Crown Center Compost Dropoff Site users! Because of a solar construction project, the city has opened a new site in the old Civic Center parking lot at 2100 Ridge Ave. Tell all of your friends and let us know if they’re full. If that’s not convenient, you could try our container-swap service and see if you like it.
