𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐃𝐨?

Through 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐖𝐲𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡, local students and community members can access college advising, college coursework, career pathways, and degree opportunities right here in Evanston.

Since April 2024, Western's Evanston Outreach has advised more than 𝟒𝟑𝟏 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 through scheduled appointments, with many additional students receiving assistance through walk-in visits.

For Fall 2026:

🎓 𝟔𝟒 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 are enrolled in dual enrollment courses, earning both high school and college credit.

🎓 𝟏𝟗𝟖 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 are enrolled in concurrent enrollment courses, earning college credit while completing high school coursework.

📚 𝟏𝟗 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 are currently offered at Evanston High School during the fall and spring semesters.

🩺 Local students are also pursuing healthcare careers through Western's nursing program, with:

𝟓 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 currently enrolled in Nursing III and expected to graduate in May 2027.
𝟑 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 currently enrolled in Nursing I and expected to graduate in May 2028.

These opportunities allow students to earn college credits, explore career pathways, and begin working toward degrees while remaining connected to their local community.

A Word from Our Community Partners

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services has partnered with Uinta BOCES #1 through the BOOST (BOCES Opportunity for Self-Sufficiency Training) Program since 2009.

According to Workforce Services, the partnership helps provide out-of-school youth ages 16-24 with opportunities to build educational, workplace, and life skills that support long-term self-sufficiency and career readiness.

They highlighted several outcomes of the program, including:

✅ HiSET completion rates that have increased from less than 50% prior to the BOOST model to more than 90% today

✅ Career exploration, job shadowing, internships, and work-based learning opportunities

✅ Financial literacy, workplace readiness, resume development, and interview preparation

✅ Industry-recognized credentials and workforce training

Through collaboration between community partners, local employers, and educators, BOOST helps participants gain the skills and experience needed to pursue employment, training, and continued education opportunities.

Partnerships also create hands-on learning opportunities for students, including workforce experiences, career exploration, technical projects, and educational support programs throughout the community.

For 40 years, Uinta BOCES has been connecting people, organizations, and opportunities to help meet the needs of our community.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗼?

The 𝗕𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗦𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗦𝗧) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 was established in 2009 through funding from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.

BOOST serves out-of-school youth ages 16-24 who face barriers to education, training, and employment by providing a structured pathway toward self-sufficiency, career readiness, and future success.

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻:

✅ More than 𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 have completed BOOST

✅ 𝟯𝟴 𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲-𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 have been completed

✅ Program classes are intentionally kept small, with 𝟭𝟬-𝟭𝟮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀

✅ BOOST maintains an overall 𝟵𝟬% 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲

✅ 𝟴𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲

Participants gain valuable skills through:

• Financial literacy
• Resume development
• Digital literacy
• Career readiness training
• Mock interviews with local employers
• Job shadowing opportunities
• Internships and work experience

Students also have opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials. During the 2025-2026 program year:

✔ 6 students completed OSHA 10 Training

✔ 8 students completed PEC/Veriforce Training

✔ 6 students completed PEC Leadership Certification

An additional benefit of the program is that students who score within the qualifying range on the HiSET may become eligible for the Hathaway Scholarship.

Before the implementation of BOOST, local HiSET completion rates for at-risk youth were below 50%. Today, program completion rates exceed 90%.
