I am a current Evadale School Board member (appointed last May) and would love if you would consider voting for me to continue in the seat for the next term.
For those of you who do not know me, I’d like to tell you a little about myself. My family and I have been involved in Evadale school/community since my oldest started school in 2008. I am a Registered Nurse and have worked as a nurse and Nursing Director of several units in the hospital including our medical and ICU unit. In my director roles, I was in charge of multimillion dollar budgets, payroll, hiring, education, planning, policy development/implementation, process improvement, emergency management, and so many other areas. While working as a clinical educator for four years, I obtained my Masters in Nursing education and my instructor status in 6 areas. I also currently oversee multiple nursing clinical groups for Western Governors University. Although my field is different than school age education, my focus has been management and education and many of the functions have overlapped and helped me be able to ask questions and offer feedback about processes in the school system.
I enjoy being involved with the kids and school activities. I have served on past boards for Evadale PTO, Fishing team, and currently for the OpGrad committee. My parent/non board involvement include all sport/activities our children are involved in: Little Dribblers, volleyball, cheer, track, basketball, football, dance.
Outside of kid activities, I am a current school board member and serve as a Paramedic first responder for the Evadale Volunteer Fire Department. I have been a paramedic and instructor of many courses for almost 20 years and work to educate not only those in the healthcare community but also our area teachers by doing cpr and first aide training. We have a family owned firework stand that my grandparents started when I was a baby so that is where you will find us every Christmas/new year and July 4th season. In addition to the fireworks stand, my husband and I decided about three years ago to use the land around our home in Evadale as a Christmas tree farm so he began planting them and has continued each year. We hope to be able to open the tree farm to the public in the next couple years.
When the Covid pandemic started, I began attending the school board open meeting sessions so I could listen to plans for school cleaning and safety measures. From there I continued to attend the meetings when possible because I discovered it was a way to know a little of what was going on in the school system. When there was a resignation, I was appointed by the board to complete the term and appreciate their confidence and support to me during this process. I have loved getting to learn and be a small part of the processes that keep our school running, both day to day and long term.
My goals and position for both my current term and the future should I be elected for the next term: I am FOR the children/students of Evadale ISD getting the best education and experience possible while at Evadale ISD. This includes, but is not limited to: their classroom learning; future preparations (through dual credit program, early trade introduction, and providing an environment that prepares them for as many future life situations as possible). I want to help support teachers, staff, administration, and parents so together we can provide opportunities for our students that will create lasting lessons and memories while encouraging team building and personal growth through academics, sports, clubs, programs, and UIL participation.
Our school district and board have already made some remarkable improvements and changes over the last couple years and i believe we are heading in a great direction. I am asking you to consider me when voting so that I might have the opportunity to continue being a part of the districts continued success.
