am, in collaboration with Auburn University and Alabama Cooperative Extension utilize the federal initiative as an opportunity to provide Head Start programs in Alabama with an enriched healthy eating and active living program. The program boasts a well equipped staff that utilizes current methods in an effort to promote awareness of healthy living. Children are provided with nutrition education as well as physical activity training in a fun, non-threatening and natural environment. Families can receive training, materials, support and information on how to incorporate the best possible practices into their daily lives. What’s offered at Greene County Head Start?
• Color Me Healthy, an age appropriate curriculum with fun, interactive learning opportunities on healthy eating and physical activity
• Nintendo WII Game System, the children use the WII game as a fun form of physical activity
• Computer Lab, the children use learn to use the mouse and keyboard to navigate the internet by using nutrition related websites
• Community Garden, the children help to plant and maintain a community garden
• Indoor planting
• Cooking demonstrations

Objectives & Outcomes
• Encourage preschoolers to eat healthy & live and active life with the ultimate goal of reducing childhood obesity
• Co-construct learning, skill-building, and behavioral applications for preschoolers and their primary caregivers
• Utilize curricula in Head Start classrooms which support healthy eating and increase physical activity for three & four year olds
• Initiate community-wide projects to support healthy lifestyles for all families

There is a parent meeting scheduled for Thursday Feb 14th! Head Start on Healthy Start by Kindergarten will host a smoothie & jucing demonstration. If you have never made juice or a smoothie this will be a treat for you. If you have, you will be able to get some new recipes. Please make plans to attend!!
