College of the Redwoods Gallery Floyd Bettiga Gallery Our gallery program also features an annual art faculty exhibition and an annual juried student show each spring semester.

The College of the Redwoods Floyd Bettiga Gallery supports the coursework of the Art Department with exhibition programming that features innovative work by local, national, and international artists working in a variety of media — including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, crafts, photography, graphic arts, and video. These exhibitions showcase diverse materials, techniques, and approaches

to contemporary art making, and allow our students ready access to the technical mastery, experimentation, and reflective analysis found in professionally executed artworks. The gallery's emphasis on relevant creative practices beyond our local region gives students the opportunity to critically examine many forms of contemporary visual culture. The annual student show grants students the possibility to exhibit their work in a professional context, as well as the opportunity for formal evaluation by established professional artists from outside the Art department. Our annual student show also includes numerous cash awards and gift certificates and is supported by many local arts organizations, charitable organizations, and arts-related businesses.

College of the Redwoods presents: Imagination Figuration – A Lot of Local Figure Drawings, organized by Mia Hilfiker with gallery staff

On-campus gallery exhibition, Wednesday, August 26 – Wednesday, September 16.

A public reception will take place in the gallery Friday, September 11, 5 – 7 pm.

The Floyd Bettiga Gallery on CR’s Eureka Campus begins its 2026 – 2027 schedule with an exhibition of figurative artworks drawn from life by local artists. This group show kicks off a year of gallery programming about Community, Service, & Local Spirit.

Imagination Figuration was conceived and organized by former CR art student Mia Hilfiker and presents an expanded definition of figure drawing, including figures in imagined contexts, abstracted forms, sculptural interpretations, and non-human figures.

Artists in the exhibition include Mikayla Burke, Christopher Grimes, Mia Hilfiker, Joyce Jonté, Sara Kimber, Katie Kirk, Bryanna Lopez-Tejeda, Dean Smith, Jesse Wiedel, and Bobby Wright. They represent several regular figure drawing groups including Dean Smith’s Life Drawing class at College of the Redwoods and the Redwood Model Collective.

College of the Redwoods presents: The 2026 Juried CR Student Art Exhibition judged by Sarah Whorf

On-campus gallery exhibition: Tuesday, April 21 – Friday, May 15

A public reception and awards ceremony will take place in the Floyd Bettiga Gallery: Friday, May 1, 4 – 6 pm

The College of the Redwoods is thrilled to present the 2026 juried exhibition of student artwork in the Floyd Bettiga Gallery on CR’s main campus, from Tuesday, April 21 through Friday, May 15. The artwork on display includes a huge range of media and styles, including painting, life drawing, functional ceramics, photography, jewelry and sculpture. The exhibition showcases the artistic accomplishments of 2025-2026 CR students and the breadth of CR Art Department offerings. A public reception, including the presentation of awards, will take place in the gallery on Friday, May 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The judge of this year’s Student Art Exhibition is Sarah Whorf, Professor Emeritus of Art at Cal Poly Humboldt. Whorf taught printmaking at Cal Poly from 2005 to 2025. Her prints and collages illustrate the idea of place in both the landscape and in the human body, incorporating a level of detail with a layered, idiosyncratic use of color.
