Let's not pretend that we don't all have some degree of shame or guilt when it comes to choices we've made as parents. That's what being a human is. Making mistakes and growing from them.
Many of those choices didn't feel like choices at all, though. It felt like instinct or impulse. Like you did what came natural to you, am I right? It can look like ...
The moment you yell at your child and instantly regret it...
The punishment that you know deep down in your gut didn't feel right. But you don't know what else to do. And your child's behavior never really changes.
These decisions we make lead us to feel disconnected from our children. A child who feels disconnected, hurt, and unheard will have hard behaviors. The cycle continues.
What if i told you so much of that is due to the way that we were raised, and the way our parents were raised and so forth.
It's ingrained in us. It has been carried down by generations because they truly didn't know the implications of unsecure attachment or corporal punishment.
They didn't know that yelling at your child on a regular basis has the same effect on a childs brain as physical abuse.
They didn't know...
They just followed their instincts. But we know more now, we have science, research and studies to inform us. So this doesn't have to continue.
If those instincts don't align with the parent you want to be. YOU can make that cycle end with YOU.
But you have to start by healing yourself.
And you don't have to do it alone.
