Physical Science students continued investigating density by comparing regular soda and diet soda. By analyzing mass and volume, students observed how the large amount of dissolved sugar in regular soda increases mass and density, causing it to sink, while diet soda—sweetened with small amounts of synthetic sweeteners—has a lower overall density due to the synthetic sugar having less mass, so it floats.

Chemistry students used an analytical chemistry technique (titration) to determine the unknown concentration of citric acid, hydrochloric acid and aspirin. The lab discs were instrumental in collecting this data. The goal was to obtain the lightest pink analyte! Who titrated the acid the best!?

This week, our future healthcare professionals from Anatomy and Physiology class completed CPR, AED, and First Aid training, gaining hands-on experience in emergency response and patient care. Students practiced high-quality chest compressions (maintaining a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute and proper depth), effective rescue breaths, AED pad placement, scene safety assessment, abdominal and chest thrusts for choking emergencies and proper technique for stopping emergency bleeding.

Physical Science students are investigating density using the formula D = M ÷ V, starting with precise mass measurements using digital scales and focused practice in calculating volume.

📦 Regular-shaped objects:
Students practiced determining volume using geometric formulas (V = L × W × H) before applying those calculations to find density.

💧 Irregular-shaped objects:
Students used the water displacement method to determine volume (ΔV = final volume – initial volume), reinforcing that displaced water volume equals the object’s volume.

Through repeated practice calculating volume and analyzing mass-to-volume ratios, students observed that density is a characteristic property of matter—independent of size or shape, but dependent on composition of the item.
