Worksheets aren’t BAD for little kids. Stopping at the worksheet is. 👏🏼

The page introduces the skill in the easiest way.

Then play makes it stick (and more fun!).

Patterns on paper ➡️➡️ patterns with toys.

And 15 minutes later, you’re done for the DAY 🥳

🛑 Stop spending 30 minutes prepping an activity your preschooler will do for 4 minutes.

If your preschooler played with Play-Doh today, they learned a TON!

(And no, they don’t need to know that. 😂)

They think they’re squishing, rolling, and making a cute picture … but they don’t know they’re actually working on:

💪 Hand strength
🤏 Pincer grasp
☝🏼 Finger isolation
🙌🏼 Bilateral coordination
🔢 Counting + early math
📏 Measuring
🧩 Spatial awareness
💬 Descriptive language
🎨 Creativity
🧠 Problem-solving
👀 Visual tracking

These are the exact skills that make holding a pencil, cutting with scissors, and writing their name easier later.

Play-Doh + simple mats + 15 minutes = the perfect amount of preschool learning. ❤️

Your preschooler does NOT need to sit at the table doing flash cards to learn letters. 👏🏼

The best letter learning happens when they’re moving, playing, talking, and connecting a sound to something they already know.

Here’s how I’d practice P (because … pumpkin season 🎃):

📚 Read a book about something that starts with the letter

✏️ Trace or build it in fun ways: blocks, LEGO, mini cars, stickers, cereal…

🔎 Go on a beginning-sound hunt around the house

That last one is SO easy, and kids love it. Have them find things that start with the sound, say each one together, and really stretch out that first sound.

Then help them notice they ALL start the same! 🤯

And when you’re done? Set a timer and race to put everything away. 🙌🏼

Preschool learning really can be (and should be!) this easy.

⚠️If I had a toddler that wouldn’t sit still for a hook, I’d head to the library today and grab these:

Books that let them:

* Choose what happens next
* Get up and move
* Tell their own story + Finish in 2 minutes, not 20
* Repeat lines they already know by heart
* Make silly sounds
* Sing along
* Explore with zero storyline

⚠️Teacher Tip: It doesn’t even have to be a “real” book. Magazines, search & finds, and comics all count

⚠️Before your preschooler can read words, they need to understand what reading IS.

💡That doesn’t mean memorizing sight words or pushing them to read before they’re ready.

🛠️It starts with the skills that build a foundation for reading.

One of those skills is “concept of a word” - understanding that the words we SAY match the words we see on the page and that a sentence is made of words.

First, they hear the poem while following along with pictures and a dot for every word.

Then we slowly remove the support:
→ The last word disappears.
→ The pictures disappear.
→ More of the sentence disappears.

And because the poem is familiar from practicing, your preschooler is able to keep saying the missing parts.

They’re learning to track words, hear the rhythm, remember text, and understand that spoken words can be shown in writing.

No pressure to “read,” but we intentionally build the foundation that makes learning to read easier later📚

I know it feels like everyone else’s kid is on the fast track to reading books and yours is still working on letters.

Deep breath, mama.

✨MOST kids aren’t developmentally ready to read until around age 7 - not 4, 5, or even 6. Push it too early, before they have the appropriate foundation, and you might just create a kid who thinks all learning is scary and too hard.

That’s the opposite of what we want.

🧠Instead? Cultivate curiosity.

Let them play- Independent play & playing with other kids.

Work on them following directions, problem-solving, hands-on learning that doesn’t pressure them.

🏆THAT’S what builds real readiness. It’s the difference between a kid who dreads school and one who’s excited to go.

Take it slow. This isn’t about performance.

It’s bout curiosity, problem-solving, and helping them fall in love with learning.

I owned my own preschool, I have a master’s degree in early childhood education, and I’ve helped over 1,000 moms teach their preschoolers at home.
