The Fall semester starts in one week! So let’s start a short series.

Reasons be a forester. 🍁 Specialized Skills.

Foresters help enhance, manage, and conserve forests. Forested landscapes face many challenges including invasive pests, catastrophic wildfires, and land use conversion/development. Forestry careers require a many skills, from problem-solving to decision-making and long-range planning. A career in forestry means you’ll use practical knowledge in tree identification, soil health, hydrology, ecosystems management, wildlife habitat, and the timber supply chain.

Kinda chic (trend) logging sports edition.

Course Code: FNR-17 (1 unit, credit or noncredit) open to all majors with no prior experience required.

Practices & Training: The team practices and meets offsite on Saturdays (9:00 AM – 12:35 PM) alongside the Cal Poly Humboldt Logging Sports team. This is a late start class beginning Sept 12.

Skills Taught: Safe handling of axes, crosscut saws, chains saws, log-rolling (birling), ax throwing, and proper safety gear usage.

Coaching: Coached by industry professionals, including Evan Goetz and AJ Murphy.

Day Two of FNR-46 Tech and Applications in Hoopa!
Students identified grey pine, manzanita, white oaks and snags in Tish Tang campground marking their locations on gps units and navigating with maps. Then we uploaded the data, made a map and added it and a table of coordinates to a document. Then we met with Anthony in wildlife to learn how he uses technology in his job. Good day!

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer for many, with campgrounds and recreational areas opening and filling with visitors. 🏕️
You can find Miah at Grizzly Creek this summer. She completed the AS Degree in Forestry Technology this spring. She was actually wearing her park hat instead of her graduation hat last weekend starting her new role. 🎓
She is a compassionate conservationist with a stellar work ethic and passion for education. Go on and do great things Miah!
