Social workers are problem‑solvers, advocates, and connectors. They walk alongside individuals and families during some of life’s toughest moments, helping people access resources, navigate complex systems, build on their strengths, and find hope when things feel overwhelming. Whether supporting children, older adults, families, or whole communities, social workers bring compassion, skill, and humanity to the work they do.

We’re proud to be part of a profession rooted in justice, dignity, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. To all the social workers and future social workers out there: THANK YOU for your heart, your courage, and your unwavering commitment to care.

Jefe brings hard work, kindness, and genuine positivity to everyone around him. His dedication to helping others shines through in each smile, fist bump and “hey” he shares as he moves throughout campus. The field of Social Work is lucky to have you in the mix Jefe! ♥️💛

Jefe Denning’s story is one of survival, loss, and the power of second chances.

After battling addiction and experiencing homelessness, Jefe found his turning point and a path forward at College of the Redwoods. Now studying social work, serving as an ASCR Senator, and supporting fellow students in the residence halls, he’s rebuilding his life and working toward helping others find their way out of the darkness.

From rock bottom to becoming a light for others, Jefe’s journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to start again.
