FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Okay… this one is coming a little later than planned. Apparently Cinderella wasn’t the only one with chores to do today. 😂

Keeping with our kindness theme this week, what could possibly be kinder than once being a Fairy Godmother at the most magical place on Earth?!

This week we are highlighting our wonderful Speech Diagnostician, Ms. Southall!

Ms. Southall is truly one of the kindest, warmest people you could ever meet, so honestly, finding out she was once a Fairy Godmother at Disney World just makes perfect sense. And while we absolutely LOVE the picture she shared with us… we are officially requesting photographic evidence of the Fairy Godmother dress too. ✨

She may no longer be making magic at Disney, but she is still making a very special kind of magic happen every single day at Bear Creek.

Through patience, encouragement, dedication, and so much heart, Ms. Southall helps our Cubs work toward their goals, celebrate their progress, build confidence, and accomplish things that once may have felt really hard. That kind of work may not come with a wand or pixie dust, but it is every bit as magical.

We are so incredibly lucky to have someone as kind, caring, and dedicated as Ms. Southall pouring into our Cubs.

So today’s lesson is pretty simple: once a Fairy Godmother, always a Fairy Godmother. She just traded the castle for Bear Creek. 💙✨

We were so grateful for this program today!

The PTA at Bear Creek Elementary PTA emailed me this summer and said their staff specifically requested my program be the first program of the year. What an honor. ❤️ Today I presented to the students RIGHT up to the dismissal bell. With that timeline I always expect a few looks to the clock or the rustling of bags…but there was none of that. These kids were leaning in and so precious. What a wonderful time back in GCISD! Thanks for having me!

As our school day comes to an end, we know some of you still have a good hour or two ahead of you with high school pickups, practices, activities, homework, dinner, and all the other things that come with family life. 💙

Before the day gets away from us, we want to once again say a huge thank you to Carolyn Brown and Hey Dude, Nice Shoes for spending today with our Bear Creek Cubs.

We have already heard so much wonderful feedback, and yes, apparently there were quite a few tears shed today. Carolyn’s message is powerful, heartfelt, and one that truly sticks with you.

We hope your Cub comes home today wanting to share something they learned, something that made them think, or maybe even something that struck a chord in a way they did not expect.

We love being able to bring programs like this to Bear Creek, and we hope every single Cub, student and staff member alike, left today with an even stronger pull toward choosing kindness, understanding, compassion, and empathy in the way we treat one another.

So whether you get an earful at pickup, hear all about it around the dinner table tonight, or get the full recap while eating dinner in the car on the way to a thousand different things like some of us will be doing… we want to hear it. 💙

As we continue reflecting on kindness today, we have to stop and recognize some of the people who show it every single day at Bear Creek. 💙

Our teachers and staff pour so much into our students and families. They teach, encourage, comfort, celebrate, listen, advocate, and care for our Cubs in ways that often go far beyond the classroom.

Sometimes it is a teacher noticing that a student is having a hard day.

Sometimes it is a staff member offering a little extra patience or encouragement.

Sometimes it is someone checking in on a family, celebrating a small victory, or simply making a child feel seen, safe, and important.

Those moments may seem small to the person giving them, but to a student or family, they can make all the difference in a day, a week, or even an entire school year.

And kindness doesn’t stop with our staff. Our Bear Creek families show up for one another in some pretty incredible ways too. 🐻💙

So now we want to hear from YOU.

This one is for the grown-ups. 💙

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians, family members, friends… however you fit into your Cub’s world, we’re all in this together.

Raising kids is beautiful and funny and rewarding, but it can also be exhausting. There are lunches to pack, places to be, work to get done, practices, appointments, homework, laundry, bills, and about 47 other things happening at the exact same time. 😅

And some days are just hard.

We’ve probably all had one of those days when we were running on empty and someone showed us kindness without even realizing how badly we needed it.

Maybe a stranger held the door when your hands were full.

Maybe another parent told you, “I’ve got it.”

Maybe someone brought you dinner, sent a text at exactly the right moment, let you go ahead of them in line, made you laugh, gave you a hug, or simply asked, “Are you okay?” and actually meant it.

Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can completely change the direction of someone’s day.

So as our Cubs spend today talking about kindness with Hey Dude, Nice Shoes, we want to hear from the people helping raise them, too.

Today, we’re taking a little pause from our usual spotlights to shine the light on something incredibly special happening at Bear Creek. 💙

Today our Cubs will experience Hey Dude, Nice Shoes with the wonderful and inspiring Carolyn Brown.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the special video Carolyn made for our Bear Creek families, make sure you check it out below!

Our Cubs will be met today with kindness, compassion, encouragement, and real tools they can carry with them long after the program is over.

Because Hey Dude, Nice Shoes is so much more than an anti-bullying program.

Carolyn encourages our students to think about how we can all be a little kinder, a little more compassionate, and a little better to our friends, our families, our classmates, and even people we may not know at all.

This is such a special program, and Bear Creek PTA is incredibly proud to help bring it to our school. 🐻💙
