Indigenous Movie Night at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 14.
This month we will be screening Imagining the Indian, a powerful documentary examining the movement to end the use of Native American names, images, and mascots in sports and popular culture.
We are fortunate to have filmmakers Ben West and Yancey Burns joining us in person for the evening.

Wednesday, October 14 — Hult Center
6:00–6:45 PM — Lobby meet & greet with the filmmakers
7:00 PM — Imagining the Indian
Post-film — Audience Q&A with the filmmakers

Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Indigenous Movie Night was created to bring Indigenous stories, voices, and perspectives into one of Eugene’s central civic arts spaces and, just as importantly, to create a place for Indigenous people and community to gather. I would especially love to see Native students from across the University of Oregon community there.

This summer Lana Lopesi will be leading the study abroad class ‘Environmental Justice & Indigeneity in Sāmoa’.

This program explores issues such as biodiversity loss, rising seas levels, increasing climate disaster and various environmental justice efforts at community and national levels in response. Indigenous environmental justice efforts in Sāmoa provide a holistic understanding of how community resilience, science, creativity and Indigenous sovereignty works together. Through immersive coursework, collaboration with local communities, and guided excursions, students will engage directly with Samoan scholars, Indigenous leaders, policy-makers, activists and artists, contributing to projects that support Samoan communities in their environmental justice efforts.

The class is worth 8 IRES credits (either 400 level or 500 level) and have also been approved to fulfill NAIS and ENVS/ESCI upper division elective credits. It is also possible for non-UO students to attend and transfer the credits back over to their home institutions
