Please join us in welcoming Angela, our newest Business Advisor at the Lane SBDC!

Angela has been a Lane SBDC client for several years and knows firsthand what it takes to grow a small business. She started her business from home and went on to open a physical location and become an employer. Since 2011, she has owned and operated Oregon Tea Traders and the Tea Gardener.

Her journey is also a perfect example of why supporting small businesses matters to our local economy: entrepreneurs create jobs.

“Being an employer is an enormous responsibility that also brings great reward. I love getting to know my employees and it feels wonderful to be helping them support their families.”

Now Angela is bringing that experience to Lane SBDC clients, helping other entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of starting, growing and sustaining their own businesses.

Last week was our high school Media Arts camp. Here students are learning how to make a two color version of a photo. They're practicing with the luminous Marilyn Monroe before making their own posters with their favorite celebrities.

25 teachers. 4 days. 1 goal: bringing college level graphic design training back to high school classrooms across the region.

Lane just wrapped its second annual Design Educators Summit, bringing high school graphic design teachers from across the region to campus for four days of hands on training. Instructors dug into the same tools and software their students will use whether they're heading straight into design work or continuing on to a degree, plus practical guidance on building CTE pathways, from College Now articulation to work based learning projects with local industry partners.

The summit was created by Tom Madison, lead faculty for Lane's Graphic Design Program, alongside Kate Doyle from CALCI in the 4J School District, after Madison noticed a real gap in professional development for media arts teachers. The result is stronger connections between high school classrooms and Lane's degree programs, and a smoother path for students who want to keep building on what they learn.

Proud of you, Hestin! We love seeing our graduates make a real difference in the community.

Hestin Estrada is a returning summer project engineer intern who has been learning the estimating process as well as getting some more field experience. Hestin recently completed his studies at Lane Community College and is currently attending Oregon State University where he is studying civil engineering. We are glad to have Hestin back as part of the Wildish team!
