Jonathan was preparing to start his first year of college in 2017, when we lost him to a tragic accident. He was the epitome of love and compassion for all that he engaged with. He understood and appreciated the value of higher education as a means to being able to support one's family and community. He touched many countless lives in his too-short life.

Each scholarship will be for a minimum of $1000.00 with a goal of awarding several applicants this year.

EXCITING NEWS FOR THE OREGON YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM!

The Oregon Young Scholars Program (OYSP) is launching the Jonathan Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of one of our OYSP 2017 graduates.

Jonathan was preparing to start his first year of college in 2017, when we lost him to a tragic accident. He was the epitome of love and compassion for all. He understood and appreciated the value of higher education as a means to being able to support your family and your community. He touched many lives in his too short life.

Each scholarship will be for a minimum of $1000.00. Our fundraising goal for this first year is $7500.00. The first award will be made in May.

OYSP provides Oregon high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from underserved populations a chance to experience college life firsthand, including a summer academy. For more info on OYSP: https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/content/oregon-young-scholars-program

The young people who participate in OYSP are truly incredible people with strong desires to succeed and to make a difference in their communities and in their families. They are bright, inquisitive, and all so deserving of a chance to enter higher education. This year we have seven graduating seniors, who will be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

We hope you're all well-rested after this summer's incredible academy, and that you're all looking forward to the year ahead!

While we're sad it's over and we don't get to see your shining faces every day, we can't wait to see what you accomplish this next school year. After all, you're the ones to watch!

I am still looking out for November check-ins. Let me know if you need another form sent to you. We are not picky about how you get your answers to us. I'll even talk through this over the phone.

The Act Six application is due today at 11:59pm. We've made over 30 visits to high schools across the region, and we are confident that there are hundreds of students like Noah in this year's pool!
