Our students enjoyed a spooky fun weekend at Eugene Science Center's Halloween Open House, where museum admission was free and accessible to all families in the community, showcasing UO Psychology developmental science! Children guessed the content of our mystery sensory box and decorated their own Team Duckling bookmark to take home.

Baby caring 101. We spent yesterday evening connecting with expectant parents at Our Community Birth Center's childbirth prep class. Such an invaluable resource to the community that is open to ALL expectant families on a sliding scale!

This summer, Heather Anderson made our department proud by presenting her research on new insights about infants’ auditory environments at the International Congress on Infant Studies (ICIS). Anderson, a doctoral student in the UO Learning Lab, was one of 30 graduate students worldwide to receive the ICIS Graduate Student Travel Award. Research on Thiamine supplementation to improve infants’ development in Cambodia by Team Duckling professors Dr. Dare Baldwin, Dr. Jeffrey Measelle and their collaborators!
Dr. Jeffrey Measelle and Dr. Dare Baldwin, along with a team of UO graduate and undergraduate students, collaborated on a clinical trial led by Dr. Kyly Whitfield testing the efficacy of thiamine (Vitamin B1) supplementation in promoting developmental thriving for infants. Thiamine deficiency, common in Cambodia, is a threat to infants’ survival and well-being, putting them at risk of impaired neuro-cognitive development. Dr. Baldwin, Dr. Measelle, and their team helped to train Cambodian staff to collect measures of neuro-behavioral functioning and caregiver-infant interactions.

What a great celebration of community for July 4th Springfield Utility Board Light of Liberty! Our grads and undergrads showcased UO Psychology Department and University of Oregon Linguistics developmental research where families and kiddos learned how the brain process language and how our senses help us identify objects.

Always fun to be a part of Willamalane Park and Recreation District Children's Celebration! Kiddos and families braved the rain and were unfazed by the downpour ☔️🌧. This was Team Duckling's 5th year at the event where we re-connected with some familiar faces and met many new families. Who remembers our trivia about baby footprints and diapers?
