It’s been eleven years since Chiba Sensei’s passing. Through the course of his life, Sensei, in many ways, became a mountain and many extended themselves in the dangerous pursuit of reaching toward his summit.

This year, I am now older than he was when he passed and have come to believe that summit is still obscured. A place still emerging through the work of the generations who were forged through him, and the ones who now carry his būdo - though many have never touched his fire.

We remember and honor Sensei each time we step on the mat. And on days like today, we remember him in community. The base of his mountain he left for us to protect so that generations forth coming will have a place to begin in their pursuit of they way.
