Indigenous Science and Futures in the Klamath Basin

This panel will feature Indigenous leaders and allies speaking on the pivotal role of Indigenous science, culture, and political leadership in the removal of four dams along the Klamath River. Program to begin shortly after 5pm.

Big congrats to Roschelle Weiser-Nieto for successfully defending her dissertation, "It Celebrates Our Culture: Re-Storying Historical Healing in Education"! We can't wait to see what's next, Roshelle!

Shout outs to Leilani Sabzalian and Michelle Jacob for their co-authored article, "Clearing a Path for Indigenous Teachers," in the fall 2024 edition of the NMAI Magazine! As always, repping the community and advocating for Indigenous teachers and teaching!

Hands up for Rachel Cushman who recently published a chapter titled, "Walking Towards Indigenous Pedagogies: Kәnim a Teaching Tool to Enrich All" in the collection, Walking Away: Refusing and Resisting Reactionary Curriculum Movements.

Celebrations for Sage Hatch, who co-edited the collection mentioned above and also contributed an article, "Refusing Settler Grammars: Engaging Survivance to Create Possibilities."

Congratulations to Jennifer O'Neal on the publication of a special issue of Transactions of the American Philosophical Society journal, “Indigenous Research in Archives and Beyond: Relationships, Reciprocity, and Responsibilities.” In addition to editing the issue, Jennifer also contributed an article, “Indigenizing Research and Archives: Relationality and the Collections Back Movement.”

Big celebrations for Torsten Kjellstrand, who released a 1-hour film on PBS, “And Knowledge to Keep Us,” about the Akiak Culture Camp that premiered Friday, November 1 and will be screening on PBS and across other venues in the weeks to come. Woohoo!

Join Gabriel Sanchez for insights from a collaborative field school that brought together students and Tribal members from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and their Land Trust. Sanchez will discuss how Indigenous-led efforts in central coastal California archaeology—which focuses on site stewardship, access, research, and education—can be beneficial components in field schools.
