In collaboration with the UO Women's Center:
“What’s up with whiteness?: A symposium for deconstructing whiteness"

NOTE: If you sign up for the 'Allyship' Track of the BIWOC Symposium, you will be directed to the URL for *this* event, held at the same time. Women's Center staff are participating in and acting as co-conveners.

Conversations about race and systemic injustice are increasingly integral to day-to-day dialogue in communities large and small. “What’s up with whiteness?: A symposium for deconstructing whiteness" will help participants find their place in these conversations by examining their identities and the systems they are a part of in an effort to become more effective allies within their communities.

In this full day, in-person symposium participants will explore white identity through an overview of terms and definitions, historical context, and reflection. The symposium is intentionally an inter-generational space welcoming students, staff, and faculty together to engage in conversation and learn from each other.

Our hope is that this symposium can be one step on the participant’s journey toward becoming a more informed community member, and that it will equip them with the tools needed to more actively and bravely engage in making change.

This year’s session is a collaboration of the Deconstructing Whiteness Working Group’s “What’s up with whiteness?” annual program and the Women’s Center’s Black, Indigenous and Women of Color Symposium // Allyship Symposium. To register for the BIWOC Symposium instead, go to: tinyurl.com/BIWOCS2022.
