We read the Great Books in a discussion-based format in order to help students grow in their understanding of God, the world, and themselves. in Liberal Arts. Through this degree program, students develop a broad skill set around critical thinking, writing, and communication that makes them sustainable in the 21st-century marketplace. These skills are sought after because they are highly transferrable and do not become obsolete with technology. Students learn how to learn because they learn how to think, rather than what to think.

Say hello to the Class of 2030! We're excited to welcome John, Abbie, Henry, Catalina, and Anh to the Gutenberg Community.

The past couple of weeks have been a flurry of activity, from Freshman Tea to the House Retreat to the first week of classes, featuring the first part of Anna Karenina and the Epic of Gilgamesh for Great Conversation and the Western Civilization Seminar.

In Medieval Scandinavia, where monsters and dragons roamed the wilds, we find the great Beowulf. Through acts of cunning, bravery, and brute strength, Beowulf responds to many difficult circumstances. What is it that makes a hero? Is it what one accomplishes? What one becomes? What one intends? In this webinar, we will raise this and other pressing questions while practicing the art of discussion together.

Spend the year with C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy!

Through Chapterhouse, Gutenberg College shares the enjoyment and camaraderie of reading and discussing thought-provoking books. We invite anyone who is interested to join us in person for one Monday a month to read through the Space Trilogy. These novels are more than just stories of travel between planets. Lewis weaves into them explorations of good and evil, the psychology of faith, and the logical consequences of opposing worldviews. The depth of ideas in the stories makes them ideal to discuss in community, and we look forward to having these discussions.

Young Philosophers is an online forum for high school students to discuss big ideas in small groups. We rely on the wisdom of the Bible and the classics of the Western tradition to help us navigate this modern world and live good lives. All questions are on the table as we faithfully pursue truth together.

Birds, Bugs, and Mushrooms - Local nature photographer Bob Blanchard's work is featured in the Puccinelli Gallery at Gutenberg College this fall. Bob describes this show as the "cream of the crop" from the last 25+ years of his photography career. Join us at the gallery this Friday, September 4th at 7:00pm, for a show opening hosted by the artist!

Bob's nature photography will be on display in the Puccinelli Gallery through the month of October. The gallery will be open from 12 p.m.-3p.m. M-F, and 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Evening and weekend visits may be coordinated by contacting the Gutenberg office.

What if a college treated students as scholars rather than customers?

Gutenberg College is a small, Christian Great Books college in the Pacific Northwest endeavoring to provide an outstanding education for the whole person. Our goal is to apprentice our students towards becoming mature, independent thinkers who can engage wisely with themselves, with others, and with the challenges unique to their own moment in history.

Over the past few decades, college tuition has skyrocketed while the value of college degrees has steadily declined. Gutenberg strives to buck both these trends by providing a truly valuable education at an affordable cost. Students who join the college receive an average of $6,550 each year in student aid from Gutenberg's grant and scholarship programs. For many of our students, this financial aid makes attending a viable possibility.

All of our grant and scholarship programs are donor-funded. This summer, Gutenberg's Board of Governors has agreed to match the first $21,800 in donations to raise $43,600 for student aid. Every donation between now and August 31 will go twice as far.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! Wesley, Bethany, and Nick are graduating this evening!

All three of our seniors have contributed so much to the community over the past four years, enriching the musical culture here, organizing student activities, and working long hours at summer events. We are excited to see where the next chapter of their lives will lead!
