Hello Meadow View families,
Unfortunately, this update is more of a non-update. Only one person has come forward as interested in helping and her schedule doesn't quite allow for her to take the President position. It would be best if the new board consisted of parents who have helped at our events and know what to expect, so they can be set up for success!
Ideally, having a full board allows for time to meet with Principal Hiatt over summer to plan next year's events and solidify our schedule. As of right now, we will build our schedule without Popcorn Fridays, Monster Mash, the Art Walk, and Spring Carnival, plus fewer fundraisers.
We are extremely sad that it has come to this, but the board simply cannot go on with a skeleton crew. Also, changing board members every few years is a healthy expectation to avoid burnout and provide opportunity to welcome new ideas and relationships! Even if there was a full board, the PTO still needs quite a few more regular, committed parents to sign up for committees and as event volunteers, as well as attending meetings.
If you are genuinely interested in applying for a position, please reach out to myself or Principal Hiatt @ [email protected]
Some of my favorite Meadow View memories and best friends were made through PTO, and I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to support our students. I hope to continue volunteering and supporting the next generation of PTO board members.
Thank you,
Katie Mayer
ETA: To address the questions about time commitment.
Board members are expected to attend/support all of our in-person functions and meetings in some capacity:
Monthly PTO meeting (1 hour)
Movie Night
Monster Mash
Cookie Dough Distribution
Art Walk
Jogathon
Spring Carnivall
(Some events that need a few people- Walk & Roll, Teacher Conference Dinner, Staff Appreciation Week, Popcorn Friday, sorting Spirit Gear)
Other tasks that occur (and may fall to board members if nobody else can help) include shopping for supplies, counting money after events, reaching out to local businesses, distributing fliers, and rallying volunteers!)
Some weeks require an hour or two of time, others require no time. What we need most is REGULAR and RELIABLE volunteers to head committees, attend meetings and participate in discussions, and lend a hand when possible. If we had more helpers all year, the board members would really feel much less burnt out. Plus our kiddos really love to see us helping their friends and teachers. 🥰
