Update to this page! I've decided to dedicate this page entirely to my guitar lesson content and will generally no longer be posting things related to my performances, studio recordings and material from the various bands I work with.

I recently deleted any content not related to guitar lessons on this page in an effort to make this an easier outlet for my followers to utilize. I plan on transitioning my personal Facebook profile into "Professional Mode" and will be using that to focus on all of the other music content I create.

I have a lot of new guitar lessons that I am excited to start releasing. Here's a free example of something taken from a larger lesson: Enjoy

I'm proud to be an endorsed artist with Krivo Guitar pickups. In this video I am using my "Krivo Django Bucker" on my Altamira Petite Bouche Gypsy Jazz Guitar plugged into a Carvin Vintage 16 amp. Austin is using a Krivo Micro-Manoúche Universal Humbucking pickup on his National Resonator, played through a Bugera AC60 amp.

This lick starts off with a chromatic line that you can think of as part of the D minor blues scale, or as part of an A Dominant Bebop Scale. The Dominant Bebop scale adds the natural 7th as a passing tone between the b7 and the root.

The second measure works great as a minor ii V lick, as the first 4 notes outline Emin7b5, then resolving to an A7 line.

It's definitely not Wednesday, but to be honest I have not been inspired to post videos during this week (starting with Blackout Tuesday) because I felt it was more important for people's FB feeds to be focused on what has been happening during these important times. I'll be releasing more videos/lessons this week, and to make up for the late posts, I'm including more material than usual.

This video demonstates how adding enclosure lines to your Triad arpeggios can make them into great musical ideas. I also go over how to expand upon that simple idea by changing the rhythm or time signatures.

I've been using this process since college and can't stress how useful it is.

If you play a melody in C major, it will generally work over A minor as well since it is the relative key. (C Major and A minor share the same key signature. This is the basic idea of relative Major/Minor)

Using that logic, you can also recycle melodies/licks over ii V i progressions that share a relative key signature.

Using Autumn leaves as an example, this video shows you how you can often play the same lick over ii V i progressions that are in related keys.

Autumn Leaves starts with a ii V i to Bb major. One bar later we do a ii V i to G minor, which is the relative minor to Bb Major. (Bb major and G minor share the same key signature)

More on this subject coming soon. Let me know if you have any questions, including a more thorough explanation of relative Major/Minor keys. (A lot of what I teach relies on a good understanding of this concept!)

This lick is over E7 - Am.
-I start with a common basic idea I use over V7b9 chords and end it with a bluesy lick.
-I start with Gypsy jazz picking technique, but switch it up for the blues lick.

(1 original lick uploaded every Wednesday, plus much more Guitar content)

I think I'm starting to have too much fun with video editing..
This funky little thing appeared to me the other day when jamming on my loop pedal.

Who wants to add another layer to it?? Drummers, Bassists, Singers, Synth Shredders?

Send me a video and I'll (possibly..) add it in!

This is the first in a weekly series of original guitar licks. Tabs will always be posted to my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/danmahoney

This lick simply arpeggiates the chords with one chromatic lead in added in. Both of these arpeggios are extremely useful!

A minor: ii V i. (Bm7b5 - E7 - Am)
-Bmin7b5 (Or Dm6) arpeggio over the ii chord (this works over a iv chord as well)
-E7 #5 arpeggio over the V chord.
