THANK YOU LOX, STOCKS AND BAGEL COMPANY
We want to give a big shout out of appreciation to the owners and staff at Lox, Stocks and Bagel Company, located in the Safeway shopping complex at 40th and Donald. For those of you who don’t know, this is a small, locally owned company, that makes the most incredible New York Style bagels. Today, a group of our students took a walking field trip to the bakery for a tour, and each student was able to create their own bagel! If this wasn’t amazing enough, the owner himself delivered the bagels to the school when they were done baking.
If you haven’t visited Lox, Stocks and Bagels yet, stop in and try some delicious bagels and support a great local business!

UNEXCUSED TARDIES, NEW POLICY
Unexcused tardies are continuing to grow into a bigger and bigger disruption for our teachers and classes. Starting Monday, January 31st, there will be a new policy implemented as a penalty for students with chronic tardiness. Twice a week, there will be a lunchtime detention for students who have accrued three or more unexcused tardies in that school week. The detention will be located in a reserved classroom, following all Covid guidelines, and supervised by one of our teaching staff.

PARENT EDUCATION SESSION - INTERNET SAFETY - Feb 1st 6:30 pm
Roosevelt Middle School has invited Spencer Butte to partner in a parent education session about Internet Safety this Tuesday, February 1st at 6:30p.m. Our presenter will be Yuki Roberts, the School Program Director from Ophelia's Place in Eugene and a Spencer Butte parent. We have worked with Ophelia's Place for years to provide parent, student, and staff trainings and student pro-social groups and all of their work is consistently excellent. We encourage all parents to attend, even if your child is not yet engaging with social media. To join the meeting, use this Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/9366455771

PARKING LOT SAFETY, AFTER SCHOOL PICK UP
There have been some concerns with cars pulling up too close to one another when waiting for students after school. Please make sure to leave ample room between your car and cars around you, so we can see students passing through, and allow every car to pull out safely. As a reminder, we also have the parking lot east of the school for cars to park and wait.

SITE COUNCIL
Site Council is up and running at Spencer Butte! Meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month at 8:00 a.m., everyone is welcome to join. We are meeting via Zoom due to Covid. We are currently working on three site goals: Ways to measure and improve our culture and climate, making sure all students have equitable access to what they need, and increasing our community partnership and outreach. If these sound like themes that you would like to collaborate on, let us know! Contact Poppy at [email protected].

SBMS KINDNESS PLAYLIST PROJECT
Scan the QR code (see as attachment) as many times as you want to enter songs for our playlist. Please help us create a playlist to distribute to our community. Our goal is to collect songs of multiple genres, for multiple age ranges and for multiple purposes. Please complete the following google form with your song title suggestions.
Make sure you list the Song title, Artist, Category and what song means to you?

COVID - KEEPING OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF SAFE
Thank you to all of our families for keeping your student(s) home when they are ill, and letting the school know about any sickness in a timely manner. This is the best way we can keep everyone at the school safe and healthy. Feel free to contact the school office if you have any questions about symptoms, quarantine, testing, and other illnesses. Please make sure to inform the school office, either by emailing [email protected] or calling our attendance line at 541-790-8325, about each day your student will not be attending so their excused absence can be recorded correctly.
