Funnix Beginning Reading All the keys for a child’s reading success are found in Funnix, a proven, award-winning,
affordable, easy to use beginning reading program!

Funnix is a small-step, carefully sequenced web-based reading program designed to teach your child to read—and to enjoy reading—as efficiently as possible. Funnix teaches all of the skills necessary for children to become successful readers: decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Upon completion of the 220 Funnix lessons, children will have command of a vocabulary of about 2000 words, including multi-syllabic and irregular words. Children who master Funnix also have the skills to decode thousands of words that aren’t introduced in the program. The roots of the Funnix program go back to the 1960s when Siegfried “Zig” Engelmann created an explicit, carefully sequenced teaching model known as Direct Instruction. Over the next decades, Engelmann authored more than 100 instructional programs, all field-tested and revised to make sure that they worked—and worked well—before they were published

Here's a nice review of the Funnix Beginning Reading web app. The claim that it is essentially like TYCtR in 100 Easy Lessons is true only in that Funnix is a Direct Instruction program, it is not adapted from TYCtR.

Today, we’re exploring a surprisingly little-known reading app called Funnix.

Reading scores are at a new low — but the solution isn’t new at all.

For nearly 60 years, Direct Instruction has helped children become confident, successful readers — including the thousands who’ve learned with Funnix.

Funnix is built on the same proven approach: clear, scripted, step-by-step instruction that takes the guesswork out of learning to read — for teachers and parents.

As schools continue to chase trends, this article from DI publisher Mary Eisele is a powerful reminder that we already have what works.

Whether you’re teaching in a classroom or around your kitchen table — you don’t need a new fix. You just need a program that works.
