Applications are open for the 2026 Alfa Youth Leadership Conference!

High school freshmen and sophomores will grow leadership skills, enhance agricultural knowledge and connect with students from across the state.

🆕The same conference experience will be offered during two separate sessions, allowing up to 192 students to participate. Each student will be assigned to attend one session only.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is scheduled for tomorrow!
If rain moves into your area, don’t worry, you’ll still have an opportunity to count.

Sunday, Aug. 23, and Monday, Aug. 24, have been added as designated rain dates so schools, groups and individuals can reschedule planned counting events if needed.

The forecast may look favorable across much of Alabama, but as we know, pop-up showers can happen. If weather interrupts your plans, simply move your count to one of the additional rain dates and keep participating.

Local Young Farm Family Named First Runner-Up in State Contest

CUTLINE: Barbour County farmers Cade and Shelby Easterling have been named first runner-up in the statewide Outstanding Young Farm Family (OYFF) contest following two stiff rounds of competition that included an application and on-farm interview. They were honored during the Alabama Farmers Federation Farm & Land Conference in Mobile Aug. 8. The Easterlings operate eight broiler chicken houses that span Barbour and Dale counties; manage a herd of cattle; tend a flock of sheep and goats; and welcome visitors to their Generation Ridge event venue. They live in Blue Springs with their daughter, Mary Jo. OYFF applicants are ages 18-35 and receive more than half their income from production agriculture. The contest focuses on farm growth, profitability, Federation involvement, and civic service. As first runner-up, the Easterling family will receive a prize package from Kubota during the Federation’s annual meeting in December.
