📚❤️ A Legacy That Will Continue to Turn Pages
The Washington Foundation – Lil’ Jacob Learning Center joins communities around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton.
While she was known and loved by millions for her music, her impact reached far beyond the stage. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she became one of the greatest champions of early childhood literacy—helping place books directly into the hands and homes of children.
For children growing up in rural communities, access to books can sometimes be limited by distance, transportation, family resources, or the lack of nearby bookstores and libraries. The Imagination Library helped remove those barriers. A book arriving in a child's mailbox was more than a package—it was an opportunity to read, learn, imagine, dream, and discover a world beyond their surroundings.
At the Washington Foundation – Lil’ Jacob Learning Center, we understand firsthand how important access to books and early literacy opportunities are to the future of our children. Dolly Parton showed the world that where a child lives should never determine whether that child has the opportunity to fall in love with reading.
We are deeply saddened by her passing, but incredibly grateful for her lifelong advocacy, generosity, and commitment to children.
Her voice may be gone, but her legacy will continue every time a parent opens a book with a child, every time a young reader discovers a new story, and every time a child begins to believe that their dreams are possible.
Thank you, Dolly, for helping generations of children dream bigger—one book at a time. 📖❤️
