Teacher Spotlight: Miss McDevitt
This week, we are excited to shine the spotlight on Miss McDevitt, who is in her eighth year of teaching and brings so much heart, patience, and passion to her kindergarten classroom!
Miss McDevitt knew she wanted to work with children, but it was a volunteer experience in an elementary classroom during her senior year of high school that made her fall in love with teaching. Today, that same love shines through in the way she supports her scholars each day.
One of the things that makes Miss McDevitt such a special teacher is her ability to meet scholars where they are and help each child grow. Every kindergartner enters the classroom with different strengths, needs, and experiences, and she understands that learning doesn’t look the same for everyone. Through her patience, encouragement, and commitment to her scholars, she helps create opportunities for every child to learn, build confidence, and experience success. She recognizes that sometimes growth happens in little steps, and those steps deserve to be celebrated just as much as the big milestones!
When asked what she hopes her scholars learn from her this year, Miss McDevitt shared that she wants them to LOVE coming to school. She believes school should be a place where children feel happy, supported, and excited to learn. That mindset is such an important part of building a strong foundation for our youngest learners.
If you know Miss McDevitt, you might hear her ask, “Why is it so kooky-balooky in here today?” when things get a little loud, or encourage her scholars with her classic, “Kiss your brain!” She knows how to bring personality and fun into the classroom while helping her scholars learn and grow.
Outside of school, Miss McDevitt enjoys spending time with her dog, Dollie, exploring new restaurants and coffee shops, and practicing yoga. A fun fact about her is that she trained service dogs in college! The dogs lived with her, attended classes with her, and prepared for advanced training to support families with children with disabilities.
Miss McDevitt loves kindergarten because everything feels magical to little learners. She especially enjoys watching her scholars grow from learning to write their names to confidently writing full sentences. That growth is a beautiful reminder of the impact teachers make every single day.
Miss McDevitt, thank you for your patience, your dedication to reaching all learners, and your commitment to making school a place where every scholar can thrive. The foundation you are building goes far beyond academics; you are helping children develop confidence, a love of learning, and the belief that they can accomplish amazing things. We are so grateful to have you as part of our Pinnacle Academy family!
